The club has fetishised getting high draft picks and last year walked Gresham out for picks. Looks like a strategy to me. The same idiots want to pay $1.2 million a year for a decade to bring in a guy that does his best work in the toilets at Revs and probably not even going to make it though his first year before being delisted.

Nobody walked Gresham, or will walk Battle both UFA, couldn't even match if we wanted.
Who wants Oliver? Only some, most think it would have to come with a FRDP and Melbourne paying 500k a year.

Gresham is bog average and paying him the money he’s on at Essendon is what got us in a mess with our salary cap in the first place.
Battle is above average, who has been offered elite money from Hawthorn.

Neither were pushed, but Battle has had a very good offer on the table since March.

The sky is not falling if Josh leaves.

Gringo, I think you’re confusing peoples opinion on here for the “clubs approach”

That, and you’re making assumptions about the clubs plans.

Josh is not a $1m per season footballer. It is irresponsible to pay him that. We have an offer on the table of approx $800k per year.

That is honestly incredible money for a 25 year old who hasn’t proven to be anything more than above average.

I like Josh a lot because he’s hard edged and reliable, but he’s not an irreplaceable type and there are plenty of candidates on our list that can potential cover his void in the mid term.

Josh has a ridiculous offer on the table from Hawthorn and a very good offer from us. It’s very rare that the club a player leaves puts a bigger offer on the table to try and retain them as it often falls outside their overall list strategy.

Again, if Josh leaves the sky won’t be falling

Not drafting mids and paying B and C grade players if they were A graders has been our biggest issue.

We've gotta pay someone. This BS rule from the AFL that you have to pay 95% of you cap means there have been some pretty ordinary players stealing a wage from us over the last decade.

I must have missed something. When did the idiotic circle jerking whatsapp group start? I can't keep up.

Despite the draft benefits, it's a big step back for the team if Josh goes to Hawthorn.

We need to cover his position and we need to find another person to mould into captaincy material.

Who should take over captaincy from Jack Steele?

Wilkie, Windy and Mitch are a bit too nice. Higgins has the temperament but maybe not the communication ability. Matteas is too young. King needs less pressure not more. Marshall is too old now. Sinclair is too nice, quiet and old.

Ryan Byrnes maybe, once he's more established?
Mason Wood? Still a bit too nice and getting too old but maybe.

Should be Battle ideally.
It's Windy. And he's not too nice.

We are a systems based team especially the defence. I love Battle but the reason he has been so good is because of our system. He is able to peel off and take lots of intercept marks. He is not an exceptional one on one defender. He does have excellent disposal.

I'm sure we will have a plan to replace him and work around him with our system, whether it's a trade or a player on the list. The fact that we're no longer experimenting with guys back there suggests to me we probably have someone lined up.

Don't think it's as simple as we will be 2-4 goals worse without him.
As long as we have Corey Enright, we should be able to adjust the system around whoever fills in.

Now let's get Howard extended before mess up the rest of the backline.

Why are Hawks interested in Barrass as well as Battle? Surely they don't want both?
Is it possible that Battle hasn't committed as there is some delay until Barrass says yes or no to Hawks?

Just a coincidence or a conspiracy?

Have no idea? But where there is smoke......

What makes you think Wilkie and Windy are "too nice"? There was a clip on the weekend where they panned to Wilkie shaking his head despite us just scoring a goal off a nice piece of ball movement. Clearly he was pissed about some small detail. Also is always the one instructing the backline with each centre bounce

Can't forget the pre-season clip where Windy cursed himself after dropping an uncontested mark. Although it doesnt really prove he isn't nice, it proves that he cares a lot and normally a person who cares a lot won't be afraid to express their opinion on what's right to the group

Wilkie until Windy is ready. Another few years.

They are trying to do what Melbourne did with May & Lever

Their backline is by far the biggest weakness in their side. They also want to free up Scrimshaw to play more as a rebounder while also pushing Sicily forward more. Frost won't cut it and Blanck has been out with an ACL all season. Their ideal backline is:

Scrimshaw, Barrass, Blanck/Frost
Impey, Battle, Amon

Weddle & Hardwick part of the rotation. Sicily, Chol, Lewis in attack. Can also switch Sicily back to replace Blanck/Frost if they want to fit Dear in

Absolutely nailed it Maximus IMHO.

Marshall

I honestly don't understand the consternation over Battle. We lord Port Adelaide for offloading good players at maximum value yet when it comes to ourselves we can't let go.
As many have said already, if we traded him for p6 during trade period everyone would be ecstatic.
The problem with the current situation is that people just have too much time to think about it.
