I wouldn’t have thought dogs could expect any more than a 3rd rounder for a 30 year old that they played vfl and sub multiple times this year. They don’t have to trade him granted , but if he’s barely in your plans and on huge money let him go amicably

You can’t expect a 250 game player being happy playing vfl

Yeah it'd be like Seb asking for a trade. Almost exact same situation really, multiple B&F winner, same draft even. I'd say Jack has a lot more left in the tank and a higher ceiling (then and now)

I guess we were pretty confident Seb wasn't going to get any bites.

Don't get the angst over Byrnes. He has shown he is a capable AFL footballer who is hard at it, runs all day, defends well and has tidy disposal.
It is always a slight on a player to call him a role player, however in a Lyon based team you need that player, he and Stocker plays that role.
And he is an upgrade on Robert Eddy and even Clint Jones.
Feel many are harsh on Byrnes.

Best thing about Byrnes is that he’s nowhere near his prime. Still has lots of development and energy left. Has a point to prove. Could become a genuinely good player if he maintains this new level of kicking he’s adopted in the back half of 2024

Goddard mentioned earlier this year that Byrnes was the one who looked to be a completely different athlete. I’m hoping the first half of this year was him not knowing how to utilise his extra bulk. His bulk, agility, speed, and aerobic capacity has the potential to be really damaging in the modern game, especially under Ross in a running game plan. We’ve seen glimpses of him taking on tackles and exploding out of contests - need to see this more consistently!

We might be hoping for just a little improvement from the likes of Pou, Garcia , Windhager.
I could be wrong but i might consider that most players haven't played their best footy in their first few years.
( mild condescending sarcasm ).
You are right , expect massive upside from these young guys , Windhager has the ability to be anything and would expect him to eventually could be captain , Phillipou in a handful of games showed he is going to be a top line midfielder and on top of that who knows who else will show up , Wilson in his first year showed enough to say he could fill a void that we have been missing knowing his is still transforming from a schoolboy and is the best elite runner in the team.

One good side to having a crap midfield -
Any half decent mid that is superfluous to needs at other clubs or who feels hard done by selection wise, will be keen to look elsewhere for opportunity. Obviously they will be looking for a new home where they'll regularly get a gig.

Guess where that is ?

We just need to be selective.

Don't think Garcia, Phìllipou, Wilson, Windhager, Owens? is a crap midfield moving forward & when Clark, Dow & Jones got fit & played to their ability, we had nice wins. Our list has been underrated I reckon. Lots of injuries have got in the way.

Bloke will probably play 200 games and is a good b grade player.

Every team needs players like him.

I feel his kicking did improve out the arse this year though.

Not thrilled about the contract, hope he’s a good mentor/coach.
3 Time AA, is a gun clearance mid and was part of one hell of a midfield with Bont, Libba and Himself.

And is not cooked like Hanners

Not everyone is AA. Geary was a heart and soul.player, Blake the same.
