Without wanting to take this down a misogynistic path, why would the club need to provide childcare on top of the 950k per season for someone with a stay at home partner? Thats more than enough to afford it yourself.

This whole 'childcare' angle seems made up.

Its probably more the convenience of having it on site.

Battle is yet to find out that this means, that his little one will be tied on a short lead, in a windowless, sound proof room, with 10 other little hawk infants. Free childcare out at the tip. But there will be a coffee machine for the parents and carers.

I'm not sure why the correlation between holding off on a contract and the fact that they have the same manager.
Am I missing something? Battle is gone and the manager will have no bearing on the pick.

Waiting to see what the compo pick is, now that I can understand.

South African, is he?

I'll go over and conduct the negotiations in Afrikaans (the most useless language since it's only spoken in SA) but will sweeten the deal with a braaivleis every weekend (that's a BBQ for you Aussies :) ) and my home-made biltong and melktert. ( custard tart.)
Will there be homemade boerewors as well?

If that’s the way the game is going (and let’s be honest, private industry is going this way) then best we organise something similar for moorabbin.

Families are unit now and decisions are made as a family, adapt or die.

I think that is right. We need to accept that times are changing.

It also means an opposition club has a competitive advantage against us when it comes to player recruitment.

No point wallowing about it. We need to be agile and recognise that it is a factor for some players going forward.

Ivan Soldo is keen to cross to St Kilda in the trade period after only a single season at Port Adelaide where Jordon Sweet leapfrogged over him to grab the club’s No. 1 ruck spot.
The Saints are on track to secure former St Kilda ruckman Soldo, who is still contracted to the Power.

The Saints need more ruckmen after delisting Tom Campbell, with ruck-forward Jack Hayes also drawing interest from rival clubs.

Port Adelaide has another backup in Dante Visentini so is well enough stocked as it also chases rival players including Harry Perryman, Jack Lukosius and Isaac Cumming.

Port Adelaide gave up picks 41 and 49 and Fremantle’s 2024 second-rounder but got back a fourth-rounder and pick 50 for Soldo last year.

But the 28-year-old played only eight senior games for the Power as he also suffered a knee injury that set him back early in the season.

Soldo might hope to play in a ruck tandem with Rowan Marshall, who was in dominant form for the Saints this year.

While he would not be guaranteed game time it would at least allow Marshall to push forward at times, with Soldo an adequate pinch-hitting forward at times at Richmond.

It was a tough initiation for Soldo whose partner Chelsea Becirevic moved with him to Adelaide but then jetted off to Dubai to work while the pair continued their long-distance relationship.

Id rather we keep Hayes TBH.

This would be an underrated but good pick up

Hayes is not a full time ruckman, way too undersized

It’s Hayes vs Membrey then Soldo vs Reeves vs Campbell (who’s already been ruled out)
We dont need a full time ruckman though, we need a part timer to give Marshall a chop out for 5 minutes quarter (at most).

Theyre both 28. If were gonna get another ruckman id rather get someone younger, especially if Soldo is gonna cost a third or even second swaps.

We need someone who can ruck full games if, god forbid, Marshall gets injured. Hayes couldn't do that.

They paid way too much....Is it a 2nd & 41 for Soldo and a f4th?
This is what worries me

So were looking at a pure back up? May as well have just kept Campbell IMO.

If were getting a ruckman to partner Roma then make it a proper ruck/forward.
If its for the future then dont do a 28 year old.
If its a pure backup just get the Southport bloke or someone else who wont cost us any trade capital.

Soldo make no sense to me unless Port has basically agreed to it as a future fourth or something worth ****ing nothing.

Is Soldo any good though?

I’ve never seen him play a good game.

Agree. Soldo is one rung up from spud level. Would much prefer we at least experiment with a Marshall/King combo like how the Lions use Oscar/Daniher. Failing that give Heath and Keeler a try. What's the point of having them on our list otherwise? Hayes can be Plan B or C.

Always injured
This feels a little harsh to me.

Debuted in 22, did a knee. Missed half of 22 and then basically all of 23 (which from the outside seemed to be alot of mismanagement of the rehab). Then this year interrupted pre season, played at Sandy a bit at the start of the year played 2 games (one blinder against North) then managed and injured again.

If he was an 18 year old we wouldnt bat an eye about ACL and other injuries ruining a season and a half (especially when it seems our rehab team hasnt helped him).

Give it another year, with a full pre season and if he goes down again fair enough.

Im not against getting another ruckman but I wonder what he is going to cost? It seems we are still paying for the past regimes terrible list management. We have known for years we will need another ruckman and had endless chances to pick one up at the draft/s. As an example Dante Visento will now become Ports backup ruckman, he was a Sandringham lad taken at #56 in 2021 draft. Now we will most likely pay overs for a contracted 28yo who was passed over by Sweet. Lets hope because Port will need points next year they will accept a pick from next years draft.

The old Saints ante 'buy high and sell low' lives on!

He's a better player than Campbell, who the game has clearly go past given how treacle slow he is.
