I was thinking the same. They’ll have to get someone. Hipwood and Morris. Not much in the scoobs.

They should grab Brodie McLauglin, he was already at the Suns so has played in Queensland. Otherwise trade for Gruzewski or Jefferson.

Cal twomey reporting that Macrae might be staying as Saints aren’t offering 43
It’s called posturing.
Look it up.
No way the Dogs are keeping a player they don’t play in their seniors on that salary.

And, one who’s requested another club. Would be a shocking look.

Correct contracts are worthless today and can be a liability when you sign guys on big money for way to long like in Kelly , Whitfield , Grundy , MaCrae , Oliver , Petracca and so on.
So in the end if they do move it usual for very little and just a salary dump.
If someone wants to move it usual gets done you only have to look at Bruce , Jack Steven , Billings.
Speaking of which…when do we hear about King?

They really like Henry Smith so he'd slot straight in

Also have Brandon Ryan who looked to be a gun kid at Hawthorn last year. Developing well in the VFL

Also drafted Luke Lloyd last year who is another power key forward

They have plenty of youngsters to fill the void

If they elect to go leadership and experience I think Sam Day is a better fit for them as a bigger body and focal point
But, that’s all a bit of a stretch. Imagine going in flag faves, but relying on Hipwood, Morris and one of those. Good good. Smith is primarily a ruckman. Ryan is 26, he’s unlikely to be coming along much more. And Lloyd is a third skinny tall. The Lions VFL wins for fun, so everyone will generally get a kick of the ice cream.

Maybe they will settle for that, but it’s a hell of a risk to take when you’re in their position.

Mr Case. Firstly congratulations. Not only did you bring a multi year lurker out of the dark, you also prompted a follow up. Who knows, maybe this is the start of something.

List management and more specifically trading in players is about determining a) the residual value of the player to their existing club (given their existing contact provisions) and b) the value of the player to their potential club.

In terms of Macrae, there is next to no residual value. The dogs have a plethora of stars coming out of contract over the next 2 years. Regardless of what you hear on a podcast, there is no list manager in the world who would want to have $2M over 3 tied up to a 30 yo who isn’t a part of the clubs future plans. Not one. Threatening to keep him is purely posturing.

Will 43 be used? Maybe, but it will be with something coming back the Saints way IMO. Granted it’s not impossible that it is a straight swap, but regardless of what you hear anywhere else. He will be in the RWB next year.

Even 5 clean taps that lead to a clearance going out into clear space is a massive difference. Probably leads to 5 clean inside 50s before the defence is set up. Make 3 of them goals and it's pretty handy.

Our rebound and outside game is excellent. Adding another element is a great idea. Macrae and Soldo are good additions. Brisbane kill us on the inside because it's our weakest line. If we can cover Battle's loss and these two come in I reckon we push top 4 with a decent injury run and a softer draw.
It's the differential that hurts.
Marshall has the unhappy knack of often tapping down the throat of the opposition mids.
So it's actually Hits to Disadvantage that would be an interesting stat for ruckman.
Roma would be right up there.

The ruck stats need about 20 different variables. The way they record advantage is loose as ****.

Grundy was always more a rounded ruck who played like an extra mid than a gun tap ruck. It's the conundrum, he's made Sydney a better side but in finals players have to win their own ball so Sydney couldn't get it outside in space where they like to do damage without clearance.

Brisbane's elite kicking and ability to work hard to make space for each other to kick into is elite. They play team footy but enough talent to win one on ones. Sydney have a very average bottom 6. Guys like Melican are honest toilers but pretty average.
According to Josh Dunkley the Lions always set up to lose the hitout anyway, so no Big O didn't change the way they were going about the midfield contest.

Grundy was found out by Sam Mitchell as the West Coast midfield coach in 2018 Grand Final, if any ruckman is competing against Grundy at a stoppage make sure to get between Brodie and the fall of the ball. Losing the tap won't hurt but negating Grundy's ability to be that follower takes away his 1 wood. Grundy has never been a brute nor overly quick nor are his hands very good nor his marking around the ground, his ability with the loose ball has been his main game. Deny him that and he has no impact.

Go back and watch the replays and Fort with the new ruck rules was able to constantly get between Grundy and the fall of the ball, from that point on it made no difference what Grundy did.

Yes and no. Fort is a good old school tap ruck. Grundy more like Marshall. Brisbane had good clearance mids and better ruck service. Reckon getting the ball first is still a huge advantage and especially in a GF. Contested footy beats press and system on GF day.
went largely unnoticed but I thought Daniher changed the game mid-way through the 1st when He came into ruck, Grundy had the upper hand but Joe just caused chaos and Brisbane's mids got on top. Fort did a lot better from then on

Surprised it hasn't been spoken of more. At the game, it was clear that Joe truly disrupted that game. His stints in the ruck were incredibly underrated throughout the finals series.

Crazily enigmatic figure, but if we had a Daniher type career out of King I'd be OK with that.

just snuck over to pies board, after reading a comment from a bulldogs fan on main board

peatling to pies picking up momentum, upped years and cash offers(not confusing with perryman, but easy to confuse the 2 as similar deal with him re upping ports offer)

kennedy speaking to every vic club but mostly melbourne

I really like Pleating and think he'd be a god addition but sounds like other clubs are offering ridiculous contracts so I'm glad we aren't entering that race.

If our recruiters are as good as advertised, we should get a more talented player with the 2nd rounder we will take to the draft instead.

Herald Sun (Jon Ralph and Jay Clark) running with the below on Battles contract. Hard to see how it’s not band 1 if this is true.

The AFL’s free agency period kicks off on Friday, with compensation for St Kilda over Josh Battle’s departure the most intriguing question mark given a six-year Hawks offer of just under $900,000 a season.

Ro needs to work on getting a handball off to a good user and i can't see why its not something he can work on and improve , but .....
If not able to what is worse ?

a) Kaos ball forward?
b) Opposition winning clearance and getting it straight into their forward line?

Completely agree. I think his energy and some real bravado turbo charged his side. You can feel it even in the crowd.

Agree. He always was a big ball winner as a kid and still overlooked. I think he’s just showing that trait, but don’t really see any hurt factor - dime a dozen. If not already, Pou, Windy, Hugo and probably 7 and 8 will be past him within a year or two. Expensive filler.
