I only caught snippets while at work, Torrent looked a player.

Intrigued by Brandon Ryan. Could he put pressure on Hipwood?

Height - similar at 200cm vs 203cm

Ryan - seems a better more consistent mark. Also quite a neat looking kick. A bit more solid in marking contests
Hipwood - can be an exceptional kick but inconsistent. Has a bit more speed. Also capable of a 55m goal which haven't seen from Ryan

I can see what our recruiters saw in Ryan. Only VFL but also his first game back. I don't think he would be out of place at all at AFL level - as his brief appearances seemed to show

I think Dev and Tunstill need to stop trying to play like Ablett and Judd and just do the team thing
I didn't watch a lot of the game but yer I noticed Dev a couple of times trying to take on 2 or more consecutive tackles, might be trying too hard to get back into seniors by wanting to standout in VFL when he should be just playing team first footy.

Why Lyons didn't shoot for goal at the end is a mystery, even a point would have been good and then reset for a chance at the win.

Senior player had a chance to either win or draw the game and decides no.
I will kick to the top of the square so it is someone else problem.
Lyons is generally considered to have a very sharp footy brain.

Our forwards were terrible. Should be leading closer to goal and all they want to do is engage in wrestling. They can’t take a contested mark today yet still keep doing it.

Looked far too tall and like guys trying to figure out their roles without getting in the way of others. Bad structure but that's what happens when you have so many rucks and KPP.

Good first up game for Ryan.
He kicked his 3 goals in the 2nd half but i noticed him at a lot of contests in the 1st half.
Did not get the reward for effort in the first half in a very tall unbalanced forward line.
He is a good mark and fairly reliable kick.

During the preseason and some intraclub games you could see he was very slow.
Might have been carrying a niggle that made that stand out more.
Today he looked quicker but that is not saying much as he is still slow over the ground.
He does place himself in good positions so that is a plus.
All he can do is get fitter and be ready if needed in the seniors.
No chance he replaces any senior player unless someone is injured.

Henry Smith had a good game, but if you want to play seniors you need to nail those easy shots at goal.
Smith is only 21.5 years old so a big improvement as the season progresses may give him a chance.
Fort had a below average game, but he is still ahead of Smith when it comes to a senior callup for now.
Torrent showing signs that he may make the grade but had a delayed start to season.
Cat B rookies: Brain looking solid and Reville playing what i thought was mostly forward that just kept him away from the ball.
Morris and LLoyd could not get near the footy but it is a strange forward line.

All the others we know about to some extent regarding how they would go with a senior callup.
No injuries by the looks so that a positive.

Lyons is generally considered to have a very sharp footy brain.
I have no doubt about that.
It was just the moment was his and for some reason he decided to not take the chance.

We all know the reason we lost the game, and it was not because of Lyons indecision.

It is just that as a supporter in that moment i/we would have preferred he kicks the ball out on the full trying to score rather that the option chosen.

Ryan was the only one who kicked more goals than behinds, and even he went 3.2.

I missed the game, did anyone look good enough to make the seniors?

No one that performed like Kai did last round that demanded to be selected. Few solid contributors without being spectacular (Tunstill, Robertson, Sharp). Thought Brain was quite good too, but he's not pushing anyone out of their position at this stage especially with the re-emergence of Answerth and McKenna to come back into the side.

Smith showed signs though. He's good working into space and getting the ball around the ground, and is generally decent with the ball too. Definitely something to work with I think.

He’s close but maybe next year more realistic. I would say the areas to work on would be his tank, competitiveness in the ruck and then follow up stuff. He hasn’t rucked a lot in the past. Seemed to have been pigeon holed into forward position but this year he’s definitely getting more ruck minutes and seems to be doing well.
He was being held out of the ruck because he's still been growing all this time, and the club didn't want to subject him to injury and damage while his body was still not fully finished.

Could be the beginning of Smith applying pressure on Oscar for the number one ruck mantle? Fourth year in the system so has had plenty of time - although i can't pretend to have been watching him closely - what do others think about how ready he would be?
One more preseason I reckon
