CCP - 34 disposals, 8 Tackles, 15 clearances.

Wouldn't mind giving him a shot as a rookie
Clubs rate games in G and Marvel so much more
Great signs for him

Is CCP the guy who was in our academy a few years back? Been a slow burn if so, a shame we didn't use two picks at the mid season draft.
Yep
Was part of the first patch of Academy players

Best: Craig-Peters, Smith, Bianco, Busslinger. I think Poulter was rested in the last quarter. Bedendo kicked 3 as did Baker but against very undermanned opposition.
When watching the reserves/VFL team you are looking for players who you think have the potential and talent to make the next step. Clarke to me is neither one thing or another. Not a genuine small forward and lacks the pace and finesse to be a half forward flanker. Not giving up on him just yet but I think he's most probably reached his level.
Bedendo is kicking his 2 or 3 goals quite regularly which is a good contribution but I can't see that he has the attributes in strength or agility to step up either.
Smith is a revelation in the ruck. He just knows how to impose himself in the contest and, above all, he's smart. Can he become an AFL ruckman with his lack of height? Could he play as a marking forward with more development? It will be very interesting watching him in the next couple of years.
The only query on Busslinger is his ability to stand one-on-one with much stronger opponents in the AFL. Apart from that, he has the skill and positioning of a very effective key position player. Needs an opportunity before he gets discouraged and wants to go home.
Jones had a very good game today and found space on numerous occasions. We would need to see more of this on a consistent basis and to improve his tackling to be considered for promotion. Khamis was mostly good as an interceptor but he is being type cast as a very good VFL player. Remember, he's into his 6th year with us for 18 games.

How dumb is this post.
Clarke is 20 and a lot of guys are getting drafted in there mid 20’s and his reached his peak. Also coming off illness and injury. Terrible comment

Bit annoying we didn't add him to the list on a 6-month contract when we still have a list spot free. Feel like he'd be a chance to play next week with both Harmes and VDM doing hammies.

He certainly would be handy, he'd be ideal as that 7th mid coming off of the HFF.

Would have been very happy to take the Soviet (CCCP) - was my pick. Just has grit and is the best player in the leading team in the VFL.

Maybe coaches thought he had McComb vibes but he is young and since going into the midfield has been racking up CP’s and has genuine power - a nugget.

On the other hand I do like that they have gone for an option based on needs - fast small forward.

  • VDM has not worked out as a goal kicker and aerial not good enough or decisions making to be a small defender. Would have thought he could be an OK wing but that doesn’t appear have worked either. The kid gives his all and has speed so is being given very opportunity - and has played some decent games.
  • Clarke is the most natural forward has shown glimpses but is a long way off. Reckon he will make it with one more preseason - needs to develop his power
  • Artie was the front runner but has not improved (good game yesterday and I feel we are a better team with him in it but just drops too many balls after working hard to get into good spots )
  • McNeil has some of the components and is in the team but has not taken any of his many opportunities

West, Weightman and Garcia are decent but need genuine small forward - West and Garcia will ultimately play heavy forward minutes.

If the Soviet was a small defender he would have been selected.

Is he still cat b rookie eligible? Pretty sure they can be added to the list at any stage.

Going to have to deep into the vfl again given we have to replace 4 players this week - even with red and libba back.
