I imagine that arrangement will be maintained going forward, given that it's a government regulation that restricts "major" events to free-to-air television live exclusively.

HOWEVER I expect Fox will be able to provide their own commentary team, just they won't be able to broadcast the game until after it's concluded. Similar to how rugby league currently operates with State Of Origin and I think the Grand Final.
No, it was specifically put into the agreement that Foxtel/Kayo would be able to take the Grand Final live.

I'm sorry, I have clearly misremembered this aspect of the deal - the grand final is still excluded from being carried live on Foxtel/Kayo.

So yes, if the coverage was beamed to one of those satellites and back to the HQ by a dish on a TV van - it was roughly the equivalent of going around the world twice.
At light speed?
Which would be about .27 of a sec so there must be further delays.

I'd say it's pretty big deal if Qld and NSW stop getting all local team games live and on FTA. That was a big part of the push into our states. Start putting that behind a paywall or on a delay and you'll start losing some casual fans when they can't find the game or it starts going until 11:00pm or later on a Saturday night.

From what's been mentioned 7+ will be live and they have advertised this recently.
You would think that should cover most people watching live anyhow.

But back to FTA for those that can't access 7+
I initially agreed on your overall view, but on a rethink will it have that big an affect especially day/twilight time slots.
Night games a bit different due to late finishes.
Just looking at a half hour delay at AEST. A 7.20 start finishes at around 10.20 pm so that goes out to 10.50 which is a bit late for kids. A 7.10 start is 10.40 so a little better
Any games during daylight saving (finishes 6/4/24) will help Lions/Suns but not Swans/Giants viewers.

How many Saturday games did the Lions get in the first 8 round in 2023 & 2024.
Below times are local AEST and night games bolded.
2024: 1 game- R6 (H) 7.30 pm 20th April
2023: 4 games- R1 (A) 3.35pm 18th March, R5 ((A) gather round) 1.10pm 15th April, R6 (A) 4.35pm 22nd April
R7 (H) 1.45pm 29th April

At a wild guess we may get 2-night games one home one away. Won't be too bad especially if one is during daylight saving.

Yeah the maths was pretty mind boggling. Points to layers upon layers of inefficiency being built up over the 60 years or so of television's existence.
Yep, even if we were able to travel at 10% the speed of light it would still take us over 40 years to reach the nearest star system to us.
And being able to get to that speed is light years away considering we cant even travel at 1% of the speed of light.

Presumably if we can fix the slower bits of the broadcast network and push it through the light barrier, the resulting time dilation effect should see us being able to watch the action before it happens. I'm all in favour of this because it should see the end of sports betting
