If they keep trying to push teams to play more games instead of giving the AFLW fixturing the opportunity, you might be right, but I'll start screaming about it.

The sooner we get to a 21-team league and just play 20 games, the better. Build out SA and WA after that.
I’d be giving SA and WA an extra team and make them more competitive within their own states.
With Tassie coming, we need to make the league no. 22. That would allow all to play each other once during the year and even the rounds. I’d love to see a team play out of NZ but I doubt they are ready, but that’s what I feel we should be expanding in.

When so much the AFL does is in relation to competing with the NRL, I see more games on the horizon, I don’t see any world where the AFL would reduce the amount of matches.

I’ve always thought the next trend AFL will follow is resting players strategically through the season.

Players should be given a break here and there and during or after Ramadan could be a good place to start for Saad
A fit & healthy list is a must to enable this, so that’s the 1st part to the puzzle to get right (and some luck too).
Wins on the board assist as well.

The other option would be to take out the useless bye period over 3-4 rounds in the middle of the season and plonk 2 byes per team (rounds 7/8 & 15/16) within the season over 2 weeks each / split rounds 8 & 16.
All teams play “Opening” Round, or Round 1 that it can return to.

THe lack of other players having Owies work ethic is just misguided baloney.

Carlton list try bloody hard. They are giving their all for a broken system that ends up seeing them waver when it doesnt work. The confidence fades and things fall apart as the opposition see their system/movement rewarded.

The only thing we need to see is transition that works fairly evenly vs an opposition side. Right now we have to kill ourselves so that grind week in week out kills us at some point.

Who said that crap? 😳

Since Voss took over our work ethic has been excellent. It’s certainly not our issue

NT and ACT was where I was thinking. Then yes, after that you would be expanding into SA and WA, but you'd probably want to fix the situation with WA football ownership before that.

You should probably look at recent AFL grand final figures before firing off like that.

Players are already hitting fixture fatigue in both competitions, better to make the league more diverse and bring back double headers in the best way possible.

Digital was/is bringing in some more numbers, but they stand to break new ground with the AFLW if they do anything other than try and eye off smothering it with a pillow.

I’m a bit confused about what I mentioned that constitutes, firing off.

The AFL totally upended the fixture and start of the 2024 season because the NRL were playing in Las Vegas, one year later and it’s here to stay.

The AFL views the NRL starting earlier and finishing later as a disadvantage, not only would the AFL never support the reduction in games, the broadcast networks wouldn’t support it either.

Just my opinion but after next season I think the opening round charade will go and the season will just be a game longer.

AFL need to stop worrying about the NRL & start worrying about producing the best possible product.
They spend so much time distracted they miss the forest for the trees.
Allow the clubs a bigger list, grow the talent, focus on creating a bigger better product.

Also tv rights channel 7 and Foxtel don’t want less games they want more hence this bs about having a wildcard round

The numbers point to everyone getting fixture fatigue, players and patrons alike. There's a physiological limit to all of this that's really hard to move past, and they've found it.

The more they and the clubs grind down the game to a consistent performance, the more boring it becomes for a lot of spectators too. Take a look at the state of cricket in Australia to see exactly what happens.

Make it fun for everyone again: re-jig the All-Australian selection to allow for some fan voting, then turn out a bigger squad and form an all-star game.

Go back to an extra structured pre-season game, prod the broadcasters to do something vaguely educational and innovative with their production instead of letting the boys club play around with a digital whiteboard or trying desperately to copy ESPN.

If the game hadn't shifted towards favouring mobility again - something that was long overdue tactically - we'd probably be sitting here talking about how boring it's become, and we almost still are.

The best players arent allowed to be as good as they are - because coaches have duped the AFL into more on the bench more more more more!!!

Why should better athletes not be allowed to show how they have greater endurance - why allow bench rotations to counter individual differences?

We watch sport to admire those who are better than the average plodder not to watch average plodders dominate screen time due to numbers.

I found today's "Gettable", on the AFL app, quite interesting.

From about the 12min mark Twomey discusses Trade/FA approach vs the draft.

Top 10 Brownlow 2024 - 1 not drafted by club.
14 club B&F winners drafted by club.
Top 21 vote getters in Players Assoc Award - 17 drafted by club.

Cripps, Serong, Gulden, Butters, McLuggage, Max Holmes, Merrett, Newcombe, A Brayshaw, Noah Anderson and N Daicos (FS but still drafted)

Trade/FA certainly has its place and needs to be done occasionally to fill areas of need, but primarily the best team's lists are built through the draft. Just gotta get the selections right.
