Durdin needs to play at least 20% mid time I think. His vision and disposal into the forward line is very good. Now Owies is not there to come up the ground, I think Durdin should be the one. Motlop's explosive pace is more suited to staying inside 50 and pouncing on the loose balls.

Just got back from the future (Training Thread wasn’t active enough) - I like what I am seeing, mids are dominating, defense is rock solid, forwards are kicking goals

List “Supreme Being” keeps merging Pick 19s for Top 5 picks and everything is coming up roses. Its amazing how our half back and half forward flankers all can play in the middle

Those that are wondering - umpires are now AI controlled drones (havent seen a decision I didn’t like in the last 5yrs, I’m not entirely sure why the umps all look like Agent Smith but premiership day deja vu is okay by me).

We are on track for our 20th premiership in a row, other clubs aren’t happy and keep claiming we have rigged the salary cap, Pigs Arse. We can’t help it that Free Agents are coming for the premiership glory

I love the fact that the Tiggers and Filth have just been demoted to the magoos comp. But can’t believe North are playing out of Port Moresby, surely the WFL learnt their lesson in Tassie

Welcome back to the present. I myself have just returned from my own time travel experience, but I preferred to go back to 1979 and stay a few years. Excluding ruckmen, at centre bounces, we used more players than any of the top 8 sides apart from the Cats

Because we were desperately trying to find a combination that could combat the quicker midfields.

You look at Martin's stats off AFLtables.com and all Lij needs is 13 games a year and 10 goals a season to match Martins last 5 yr numbers. Lij in his first year did 22 games and 17 goals playing a mix of roles. Good times ahead.
We have lost little and gained much. Best ability being availability and all that. If he stays in the right head space and keep putting the work in, has elite upside.

The numbers don't tell the whole story though. Our forward line was instantly more dangerous when Martin played because of his smarts, hard running and tackling as well as him being an aerial threat. Made life easier for H and Charlie.

I think Lij is a different type of player.

I think this was discussed previously. Motlop may have high top end step but he doesn't seem to have those fast first few steps and evasive skills like the top end small forwards.

If you compare Motlop to Jarrod Pickett I think most would consider Motlop the slower of the two by a considerable margin, no matter what the top speed of each was.

Pickett had extreme acceleration, Motlop would be at risk of getting chased down by a lawnmower.

That doesn't mean he can't be a good player, but it certainly doesn't advantage him.

Could have been anything if he had the determination.

I disagree with this. Professional athletes are fair game for critical discussion imo. I've never said anything about Motlop off the field regarding what he's like as a person or anything like it, purely related to his output and ability as a player.

Don't think you'll find a person on here who doesn't want him to succeed for the Blues. Seems a good kid, as does Durdin, but when a fantastic list is relying on role players to improve they're obviously going to come under scrutiny.

Saying criticisms of Motlop are without basis? He had a terrible season last year, partly due to injury and partly due to the condition he came back in when he was healthy. I don't see what's wrong with the comments that were made.

In running there are different types of speed... You can have a fantastic top end speed without being quick out the gates. Look at the new Australian sprinting prodigy Gout Gout, he's woeful out the blocks compared to the rest of his opponents but as soon as he hits full stride he runs away with it like he's racing a pack of toddlers.

As a small forward it is far more beneficial to be quick out the blocks than it is to have good top end speed. A position like the Wing would generally be the opposite.
