Matt Carroll hopefully sees this as an opportunity to get back on the list.
Terrible about Newman but it leaves a massive opportunity for Cowan, Boyd, Wilson, Hollands etc to try to make that role their own.

Cincotta’s delayed start to the season further complicates the issue. Our recruiters have plenty of time for Carroll. Think he is a lay down misere for a spot if he stays healthy until the SSP deadline. If a groin is properly rehabbed, there is a slim chance of recurrence. Maybe Russell left us a parting gift.
A third SSP pick perhaps brings WW right into the frame too. Apparently he's spent a bit of time behind the ball in match sim?
Could live with that. Made of the right stuff and plenty of skills. The type of mature ager to “make it”.

I really hope the list team aren’t swayed by the injury to Newman in who they take as supplemental sign up players. I hoping it’s McMahon and one of DGB or Ethan Phillips. IMO S Durdin is just too unreliable. Carroll is hardly going to be a walk up start replacement for Newman so if we are worried about losing Newman then we should target someone else at the mid season draft. Surely with the likes of Cowan, Docherty and Haynes we have enough options to cover for at least the first half of the season.
It's about him becoming part of the depth behind whoever does replace Newey.
Just as the KP options would be 2nd/3rd level depth behind our starting guys.

IMO Cowan is Newman’s replacement. If he fails then Doc can go back there to play the role. I could also see Gov or Haynes in that role in a backline featuring Weitering, SOS, Haynes, Gov, Saad, Boyd and Cowan. Even Luca could be a bolter for the role. IMO Carroll would behind all these guys.
Bottom line is we have enough options to at least get thru to the middle of the year when Cincotta would likely also become an option or we find a ready made replacement in the MSD. If Weitering, Harry or Charlie are out then we a fcuked. IMO we need to prioritise key position depth with these two SSP picks.

I still think we need more options in the small forward department.
I like McMahon, but I don't think he's a massive need for us and I have questions marks on how his game will translate at AFL level. I'm happy to rely on Lemmey as the tall forward back-up for this season. He seems to be tracking well.
Think we’ll take 2 for SSP* & carry 1 over for the MSD. *Subject to available open list spots between now & SSP closure.
Unfort we’ll more than likely have someone on the Inactive List before the MSD, so would load up to fill the list now.
Agree on Phillips and McMahon to give us KPP depth at both ends - not sure about Carroll after we drafted Charleson, and I'm also a big fan of Walter White....the kid can play....and has a beautiful left peg on him which we're currently lacking.
I wouldn't be carrying a spot forward unless we decide we don't have three guys trying out who are good enough.
There's very limited scenarios where carrying a spot forward would be better than filling it preseason - unless we expect to have an early MSD selection to get an emerging VFL standout. Especially considering the risk of an early season injury.
Any new season ending injuries open up new spots anyway.

IMHO - problem with losing Newman is (amongst other things) we have lost our backlines best and most creative kick. Docherty does not use the ball well enough and I haven't really seen Cowan show the same kicking ability to this point. I think best chance of replacing Newmans kicking is have Boyd given the role. He has shown in the past he’s prepared to take the difficult option and has the kick to pull it off.
Just wish Weitering would have more of a go at the difficult option…I think he’s a very good kick, also.

No doubt, we cannot replace Nic overnight but for me, next man up is Boyd. He has the game to replace Newman.
I feel Cowan is still developing and is more a shut down player at this moment. Has a big future but will need a couple more seasons. I expect Cincotta to play back when available and it’s time Saad replayed some ROI by leading the smalls.
Will be interesting to see if Wilson, Lucas or Charleson make any inroads and of course what role Ollie plays when back.
Some real options and plenty for the coaches to work with. Just an exciting list!!

Long overdue, but we need someone to play on the gorillas and or the main KPD stopper
I really want to see Weitering at CHB and or on the 2nd KPF, where he can be more the interceptor
Going to be very interesting as to how we cover for Newy....... Doc is the obvious one but I am concerned he might not be able to get back to where he was a few years ago.
How has he looked at training Soapy?
Match sims and preseason games will show us a bit as to where he is at six months on from that elimination final
performance that was sadly, very poor. (should never have played, was not ready)
Fingers crossed we get Doc back somewhere near his best, that would be huge.

I think people forget how good he really is. He is a genuine star and will add so much to our side

Genuinely can't see why we would be training Doc as a mid. We have more than enough players to rotate through.
He's an All Australian HBF. Let's play him in his best position.
I’d prefer him across HB but he’s a star whenever he plays. He’s a bit of point of difference in midfield but with Elijah Lord & Smith coming on he may be able to go back

I reckon Cincotta would be a great Newman replacement but sadly he will miss pre season at least.
Positive is Doc can step into any role at anytime and without training there. He’s got the experience and ability
Doc wing or back might depend who we prefer out of the depth group in those positions, as he can play either. Do we want to get Binns/Lucas in the team on a wing or Boyd/Wilson at HB?

Not sure if JSOS is being groomed for the KPD Stopper role but I think he'd be good at it.
