In other words, we didn’t let him go, he left
Apparently Battle got absolutely blind after the season ended. Think it was a separate day to Mad Monday.

Missus was livid with the club. Was calling everybody under the sun, "what do I do, what do I do". Was told to put him to bed and basically relax, he will sleep it off.

She blew it up into a massive deal. An ambulance was called at some point.

From that day forward she has been on one, regarding the Saints not being a "safe workplace".

Sounds like Battle couldn't handle his piss and his missus is super painful.

He would have been happy to stay but she made the call.

This story came from somebody at the club who would know, so I believe it to be true.

We ****ed him around and were happy to dangle him to get compo back....then tried to reverse the damage already done.

We were like a bloke that tells his wife that we should have a break so he can go root around....then doesn't get any offers, tries to go back to the wife who's off partying and she's lost interest. Offering trips overseas and a new car but that horse had bolted.

I can't wait until Tauru comes in and puts all this Battle discussion to bed. Haven't been as excited about an untried Saints prospect since Rooey. If he reaches even close to his potential then losing Battle was an enormous win. (Battle a very good player btw.)
Yeah, Battle was turning into a very good player but I believe that Tauru will be elite. North nearly made him pick two in the draft and will live to regret overlooking him.

He might be but right now we are short a third tall. He's going to want to be good to off-set the shorter term loss.

In other words we dangled him and got a top 10 pick💥. Elite list management👊

Only if it comes off and we don't miss out on a challenge while we still have our older core. At 25 Battle was just about to hit his absolute peak.

Did he ? or just what was put in BF LOL
It wasn't just a creche, it was the whole inclusive nature Hawthorn has put together at the club.
Battle had reservations before his last Saints contract, and we had been floundering trying to put a good culture in place. Hawks appealed to him and the Saints got caught out.
It says something that the Saints know they have ****ed up with Battle and had put in place a similar process for Saints players and family. Closing the gate after the horse has bolted? Certainly. However it looks like this administration under Bassett shallows its pride, admits its mistake and tries to make sure it won't happen again.

That and the first nations initiative is good, drafting quality players is good, chasing good quality for needs is good, having the coach being a father figure is good.
All this is good.....but if we lose NWM, it will all just be words. Chasing players, offering huge contracts to prize them out, only to lose one of the most promising and talented player to pull on a jumper for the club, would be incompetent, idiotic and unacceptable and we would be a laughing stock rabble.

And I don't care how or why Battle left, a happy player stays.
Battle might be whipped, his missus might be a pain, we might have done little wrong ,( putting it out there Battle 'might' be available is certainly not a hanging offence, but you need to understand the player you are offering around), none of this matters, a required player was lost, and don't tell me he wasn't a required player.

Suck it up, we lost him, what do we do better so it doesn't occur again? Well the club has gone public with those 'family club' and 'first nation club' plans.

Up to them now to practice what they preach. Proof will be this coming off season.

The clubs talent ID has been very good the last few years. They wanted Bergman before this rise.

I’ll back them here.

Tom De Koning (as far back as Ross's return)
Sam Flanders
Miles Bergman
Finn Callaghan

We've done pretty well to identify young guns about to rise. Pity we haven't landed any yet.

Hopefully Liam Henry can be a hit.

Good post
But you & I both know the plan was to dangle him before a ball was even bounced last year and it backfired when he and his manager found out what was happening. That is the reason he isn't with us now.
What ever way you look at its bad list management losing a 25 year old that finished 3rd in your B&F and no one to replace him

I find it funny people have gone with he was whipped because the clown that is Brianspeaking said so. I guess it easy then admitting club got it wrong

I will say one further thing, with all the buzz and early signs with Tauru, would you trade him for Battle? I certainly wouldn't.
Fair call a pick 9 that hasn't played a game or Battle last 3 years two top 10s and 3 rd in your B&F at 25 years old

Billings and McCartin

Travaglia is a long-term midfielder imo - otherwise the club wouldn't be playing him in the mids at VFL
Personally I reckon he would be ideal replacement for Webster

Can play small or tall ... has speed and can breaklines .... good overhead mark .... is tenacious and doesn't like losing a contest .... reckon he could be elite in that position

That said he could also be played further upfield on the wing .... still not absolute convinced he will make it as a mid

Just an opinion

Hasn't played a single game. Jets need cooling.

Stop using logic and reason. We all know Tauru is the second coming and will lead us to the promise land ;)

All jokes aside, I have a gut feel about Tauru. I think we got the steal of the draft.
