Interesting in that video:
  • Morris has come back in great shape, really impressed Zorks
  • Zorks will be at halfback again
  • Marshall incredibly impressive
  • Not worried about the premiership hang over, we've been through a lot, still hungry
  • A lot of players in the rehab group
  • He still loves training which might be a bit different to many other older players who don't last this long
  • Younger players keeping him fresh

Anyone know how Rayner is looking?

I walked past him at Southbank on Thursday evening, he was with his girlfriend, they both looked in terrific shape.
I think she is a bit of a fitness freak unlike his X.
So she may actually be the best thing for him.

1. Wounded Lions driving reigning premiers
A glance at Brisbane's swollen rehabilitation group shows what is driving the Lions' efforts to avoid a fate that has plagued three of the past four AFL premiers who missed finals after winning the flag.

"There's going to be talk about premiership hangovers and everything like that," veteran Lion Dayne Zorko said on Monday.

"But this group has matured so much over the last six years (of finals campaigns), we've encountered so many scenarios but always come out and improved.

"So we just need to keep improving. We'd love to buck that trend and get back to that day in September again.

"There were a lot of players, stalwarts, who missed out. They have to re-earn their spots in the side, but if they do we want them to experience the same thing.

"Over six years, the hardships and losses … it'd be great to recreate that feeling for them.

"So the guys on the track have to put their case forward. Match sim is going to be interesting, isn't it? I'm pretty excited for it to be honest."

It makes a lot of sense with how many guys who missed out and how hungry they will be to win one themselves. Really hope between the guys who just missed and the young guys coming in that hunger to go all the way will be there
Of the guys who missed out 4 of them in their best form would well and truly be in our first 23.

Oscar, Linc, Kiddy and Doedee... I think Darcy Gardiner will struggle to get back in the side barring injuries down back.

Fort > McInerney.
McKenna > Coleman.
Doedee > Lester:(
McCarthy > ?

Match Committee will earn their money in 2025.

I think Gardiner will train and play with the forwards when he returns

From our GF team last year to our best 23 team this year, I would have:

Answerth > Coleman
Lester > Doedee
Joe > Day
Fort > McInerney
McKenna > Levi

New VFL ins: Gallop, Gardiner, Marshall, & McCarthy
I have said it before but IMO Answerth is great for our adaptability in the back 7, very good lock down defender and rarely butchers the ball like he was once prone to ... although Kiddy is a must in when fit.

Interesting times, gives us something to muse about over the off season.

I agree Answerth and Starc play more defensive backs
Wilmott and Zorko where the attacking ones
Kiddy and Zorko still not sure we carry both as attacking players, unless as others said Wilmott moves up to wing.
Which then mean less rotations for Fletcher, Berry and Bailey
Linc be after that HF spot as well as Levi who might do HF/Wing to start with
So what that means for someone like Bailey be a hard choice.

I think anyone who has Answerth out of the side knows how unlucky he is but the talent there is incredible. There’s four spots available in the back seven for non-tall players with his competition being:

Dayne Zorko, the current AA team player and second in the Merrett-Murray Medal.

Brandon Starcevich, an elite lockdown defender who was a top five player in this years grand final.

Darcy Wilmot, who came fifth in the Merrett-Murray Medal.

Kiddy Coleman, who was expected to be our best halfback this year and was our finals player of the year last year.

Like absolutely shit out of luck there. I could see the coaches not putting Kiddy in round one because Answerth absolutely doesn’t deserve getting dropped but I do think Kiddy is the better player and would work his way back in.

Answerth could also be the sub

100% agree on Answerth, our only true lockdown small defender outside of Starc and so much better disposal wise than previously

Need that smaller player who isn’t focused mainly on attack to balance the likes of Wilmot, Coleman annd Zorko.

I'd call playing Gardiner forward again a kamikaze act.

Keep it simple , he's actually proven to be a good defender when fit and he's tall enough to give us some versatility there.

Besides which who knows how he returns from an ACL on top of every other injury known to mankind that he's endured by putting his body on the line. Let's make his life easier by prepping him for a role he knows he can perform.

Linc up forward before Gardiner every time. Linc gives us an experienced defensive forward as well as a great shot at goal and a great aerialist.

Much more dangerous option unless you want a tight lock down on a rebounding back.
