Training 2025 Pre-Season

I’ve been watching a few replays over the past week. Enough time has passed since the end of season that I can bring myself to watch them.

The reports on here of Taylor struggling with his running again are a real concern. Watching the swans game and he is a one touch player in traffic (apart from the one sitter he dropped). He clearly has amazing ball handling skills and can pick out a team mate in traffic beautifully. But if he can’t get his fitness up then it’s lights out for his career.
He doesnt need to be an elite runner in his role, but he certainly needs to better than he is.

I can’t recall us ever having a list where I’m going to struggle to find a whipping boy assuming Murphy is booted out of the 23.
There's always been a whipping boy ....always will, a player the supporters believe doesn't justify the best 22 spot

Early betting markets will probably see Cook and Sholl as early favourites

Given we'll have 15 players outside the 22 that we will be able to make a case for getting in... then we'll easily be able to find a poor performer each week and give them the mantle.

have you ever had a case of the Fading Pup syndrome? - this is our fifth litter [with different parents ] and never had it before but this was this mum's biggest litter with 10 born.
Yes, twice & have had ro rush to the vet otherwise would have lost them i think. It's bloody scary when they start fading & you are trying to get them to drink.

One litter it was the strongest one too. We still have her today.

yeah it was horrid hadn't had that screaching cry before and as the closest vet is 4 hours away i tried to continually feed and comfort it myself but it didn't respond.

So far the remaining eight seem great - touch wood

I'm sorry to hear, as you feel helpless trying everything. Vet gave ours a dose of glucose & watched them for a while & they bounced back. Makes it difficult when you are 4 hours away.

We also use a manuka honey water dose which helps give them a boost.

All the best with the remaining pups. It's a big relief when they get through the 1st week & less vulnerable... & open their eyes & start walking, fun to watch.

Tim Gossage and Scott Cummings did their early ladder predictions. Tim Gossage has us 17th. Absolutely comical.

It's an interesting one. 17th is harsh but bottom 4 is of course still a possibility

I think there are a record low number of clubs that would be expecting to slide down the ladder or start a rebuild in 2025. The only club that would be expecting worse results in 2025 due to a loss of experience is Richmond.

There are no other clubs you could say would be likely (more so than a guess) to slide into the bottom 4 based on a loss of quality on their list. Nearly every team has added experience/quality through trades, or has continued to develop the players they have and thus increased their experience.

The last few seasons have also shown the competition is extremely tight between just inside the top 8, and just above the bottom 4. The difference in wins between 8th and 14th over the last two years has been just 2 wins, normally this is more like 4 or 5 wins. A marginal difference in performance throughout the season could see any of the clubs fighting for finals either make it, or almost finish bottom 4.

It's also bad for us that many of the clubs that finished above us have added quality. Collingwood, Hawthorn and Fremantle all added significant quality. Sydney, Carlton, Brisbane and Geelong did not lose enough net quality to (on paper) drop down the ladder. These are all teams that in 2024 were +4 wins at a minimum on us. We have a large gap to close, and that's not factoring in sides closer to our position like Gold Coast and North Melbourne that would be hoping to improve.

I'm not suggesting we will definitely finish bottom 4, but the only clubs I would definitely have us outperforming are Richmond and West Coast. The rest is in the margins and depends on how much we improve relative to other clubs, noting that we are starting from further behind. I could realistically see us finishing anywhere from bottom 4 to inside the top 8 and marginal differences could be the difference between the upper and lower parts of that range

Gossage is a clown. Even with questionable coaching, there's no way we'll be THAT bad

Given the injury run we had last season, the difficulty of the draw, the consistent mistakes made by Nicks, it's very hard to see how we could get any worse tbh.

There's also no chance that richmond or west coast improve enough to one off-season to overtake us.

The Goose just doesn't want to place the Weagles 17th only ahead of Richmond.

I forgot he still exists.

Agree with most of this but I think that the gap between our list and the rest of the mid-tier teams is not that big.

and improvement in coaching/gamestyle will be significant.

I want us to go full F1

Good, means Nicks is gone and we get another gun pick
I would prefer we make the finals... & if we are not tracking for finals mid season he must be sacked.
