Nick Blakey
Nick Blakey is a prodigious talent with a laser-sharp left boot, an outstanding overhead ability and searing pace. The QBE Sydney Swans Academy product booted 21 goals in 19 games in a brilliant debut season en route to winning the club’s 2019 Rising Star award, and while he added a lively element to the forward line last year, he’s likely to play on a wing or in the midfield in 2020. Nick is the son of former Fitzroy and North Melbourne champion John Blakey, who’s had a variety of roles on the Swans’ coaching panel since 2006.

Nick Blakey
DOB: 27 February 2000
DEBUT: 2019
DRAFT: #10, 2018 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: University Of NSW-Eastern Suburbs (NSW)

I think the hope with long deals is that the salary cap expands and you end up spending less.

Like if Blakey is signing for that long he's probably taking some sort of reduction in salary in exchange for the security. If the salary cap expands (as it tends to) by the end of his deal his salary might represent less as a percentage of the cap then than it would seem to at this point in time. Not without risk of course but if it works its pretty smart business.
too long imo

happy he is here of course but geez we love long deals

It's still a long time for an inconsistent half back flanker

It also gives you flexibility to move the contract payments around across the 7 years so you can squeeze in others short term or pay big early and have more room later on.

Great result

you can't move yearly payments can you? or was that just buddy

I don’t think he’s been particularly inconsistent for a while now? He’s played like one disappointing game this year, and no more than a few last season.

Yeah maybe the gap between good and bad has reduced

between the tigers and blues games was some ordinary footy though .

I'm just not a fan of signing anyone for that long
