Nick Blakey
Nick Blakey is a prodigious talent with a laser-sharp left boot, an outstanding overhead ability and searing pace. The QBE Sydney Swans Academy product booted 21 goals in 19 games in a brilliant debut season en route to winning the club’s 2019 Rising Star award, and while he added a lively element to the forward line last year, he’s likely to play on a wing or in the midfield in 2020. Nick is the son of former Fitzroy and North Melbourne champion John Blakey, who’s had a variety of roles on the Swans’ coaching panel since 2006.

Nick Blakey
DOB: 27 February 2000
DEBUT: 2019
DRAFT: #10, 2018 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: University Of NSW-Eastern Suburbs (NSW)

Yeah maybe the gap between good and bad has reduced

between the tigers and blues games was some ordinary footy though .

I'm just not a fan of signing anyone for that long

Yeah mean when he's been playing as a KPD?

Yeah I wrote him off when he played on a forward flank, didn't think he'd make it. That move down back was it late 2021? Absolutely turned him around.

Curnow just last week?

Melican and Fox spent more time on Mckay and Curnrow,

But still that's one, at full strength he isn't playing key defender, nor would I personally pay 7 years for that .

I'd prefer we did deals of 5 max though

More time = no time?

He also had an outstanding game besides that, so really not sure what your point is.

That he isn't a key defender like you claimed, I responded to you, not sure why as I don't think you actually watch footy

I won't make that mistake again

What a strange response. You said he'd played inconsistently, I pointed out he's played a number of roles. You then pointed out he's played a number of roles. I'm not sure you actually read posts.

I won't make that mistake again.

Remember when he played forward and couldn't kick a set shot?

Remember when he tried to play inside mid, bumped someone and bounced off like a tennis ball hitting a wall?

Oh how they grow up
I recall him running towards forward 50 with ball in hand and neither us or him had any idea where that ball was going to end up.

Colossal difference between expiring at 31 compared to 36.
Yeah, money is a big factor as well since Franklin was on a motza. But I just kinda fear a bad Rohan-like injury early on with these long deals and then having a player that might not be able to recapture good form again.

It's still a long time for an inconsistent half back flanker
He's not just any half back flanker though let's be honest.

Between the height to mark, the leg speed to break lines, and the class to hit targets, you wear the potential inconsistency to keep a player possessing that amount of weapons on the list.

No reason he also can't work on his inconsistency either. Only just turned 23 so has all his best years ahead of him.

Well we are signed up for all of them 😂

Like I said love lizard, but its a long time, you want to be sure someone is a superstar for 7 imo, we seem to sign academy guys up for life.

Better than him leaving anyway

I don't believe you need to be sure someone is a superstar to sign them up for 7 years. I think you just need to be sure they're someone you will want on the list and will have difficulty replacing for 7 years.

Generally mate im really surprised you dont see the immense value he brings to the team.

Long deals are the norm.

Theres 15 players on 6 years or more

We have 3 of them, just saying its risky, I should not have said half back flanker like it dismissed his role
