Without being coarse, let them. As posted previously, I know what a frustrated ruck stuck down the pecking order looks like - and thus far neither of them have that look about them.

They post some ok stats in the VFL without ever being the difference between winning and losing at that level then never come in and command their post in the AFL to make the selectors really think about Goldie's place in the scheme of things.

There'll be another couple of run of the mill 'maybe' rucks on the table every year. But there won't be another Goldie.
And on top of that, he's also more durable than both of them as well, despite his age.

Yes but on the flip side if he stays for 2024 then CJ and X both look at other options. There comes a time for all players but Goldy isnt there yet.

As a club we have been horrible at this, both ways. Pushed Boomer too soon and have kept Jack too long for example. We really need to improve in this space and we have a chance to do it with Goldy.

If CCJ and Xerri can’t put up material competition to a 300 year old Goldy next year, I hope we look to move them both on as well. It’s embarrassing how much better Goldy still is compared to them. Given where they’re at there is no club in the land that would look to start them over their current ruck stocks. They’re in arguably the best team possible to have a meaningful ruck career given our lack of options.

I actually wish we’d enter the Grundy stakes. Would solve a major issue for us.

Todd is by far our best ruckman. I don’t give a f*** how old he is. None of the others are close to him. Something we lack is elite senior players, Todd is one of the few we have (according to Viney). CCJ & Xerri both had ample opportunity this year, with neither looking close to Goldys output.

Besides Goldy being our clear #1 Ruck, there is a blank slate with our ruck mix moving forward. Noble had his particular tactics and 2 ruck policy, however many of his tactics are why we finished 18th & why he’s no longer in the role. There is every chance that Clarkson only wants to play one ruckman.

The fact we overpaid on CCJ & signed both he and X to long term deals is irrelevant for mine. If we lose them, we lose them. Average ruckman are pretty easy to find.

edwards would be developing regardless next year

with CCJ and xerri playing ones
Point is that we continue to have goldie, clearly being best ruck. While that is the case, x and ccj have the opportunity to displace him. But ive yet to see that happening in any meaningful way. There is the possibility they dont get that done and edwards develops that better than they do. So, having goldie around allows for all 3 to develop, and of the three im backing edwards in the long term.

Plus every year of goldstein is another year of development for edwards.

See now we're talking. Good call - Edwards is the sort of kid who -if- it came together does look to have some points of difference. But he's far from ready so the timing with Goldstein could be perfect.

We are in dire need of leadership and high performing senior players. To get rid of the arguably our most consistent and valuable player of the last decade, would be downright irresponsible.

Even when he hangs up the boots he should be employed as an assistant. We should be doing everything to keep him at North now and after he retires.

Don’t think he provides much leadership

Note he’s never even been in the leadership group

Isn’t a leader type despite his experience

With all due respect, you know sweet f*** all about whether he provides much leadership.

Just because someone isn't in the leadership group, doesn't automatically mean they're not a leader.

From a performance perspective he has been by far our most consistent senior player the last 2 years.

If there was ever an dictionary entry for "leading by example".

Turn it up Ziebulls.

Champion data rated X as the most improved player in the competition before he got Injured. He’s not yet in Goldie’s class but is coming along ok.

PR management? ie we're announcing one player each day. Think of it as an advent calendar in September.
I gathered that :) but no offence to any of the others who have signed on again, Todd is the one I want announced the most.

Goldy

Veteran Todd Goldstein will continue his AFL career at North Melbourne after signing a one-year deal with the club.

Taken with the 37th pick of the 2006 AFL draft, Goldstein made his debut for North Melbourne in 2008 and became an All-Australian and Syd Barker Medallist in 2015.

The 34-year-old ruckman currently holds the record for most total hit outs in VFL/AFL history after he overtook Aaron Sandilands in Round 17, 2021.

A solid 2022 season saw the dependable ruckman play all 22 home and away games, finishing fourth in the club’s Syd Barker Medal.

Currently sitting on 295 games, Goldstein is set to play his 300th in 2023 which will make him the sixth Roo to achieve the feat.

“Todd has given his all to the club over such a long period so we are really pleased to have come to an agreement to extend his time at North Melbourne,” North Melbourne list and recruiting manager Brady Rawlings said.

“Todd is one of the all-time greats of the North Melbourne Football Club. He is the ultimate professional in the way he goes about his football, he is loved by our members and supporters and equally so by his teammates and coaches.

“We look forward to seeing him continue to lead and guide our young group, as he charges towards his 300-game milestone.”
