Harps has had a medical at the Dogs:

KIERAN Harper has emerged as a key part of the deal North Melbourne is putting together in an attempt to lure Western Bulldog Adam Cooney to Arden Street.

AFL.com.au understands Harper, 22, has completed a medical test with the Bulldogs and is open to the possibility of a change of club after struggling with injury and form over the past two seasons.

North met with Cooney last Friday, but faces stiff competition from Essendon to win his signature.

However, the 2008 Brownlow medallist is contracted to the Bulldogs for next season and remains a chance to stay.

Cooney is understood to have had a strained relationship with ex-coach Brendan McCartney this year, with the latter's departure from the Whitten Oval last Friday a possible factor in Cooney's decision.

The 29-year-old returned from a holiday on the Gold Coast on Tuesday afternoon to make a final decision on his football future ahead of the end of trade period at 2pm on Thursday.

It is understood North's offer for Cooney will also involve an exchange of draft picks, with the Roos' second-round pick, No. 36, possibly also in play.

Little more than 18 months ago, Harper was widely considered one of North's brightest young talents, having shown glimpses of line-breaking run and freakish goal sense that suggested he was a star in the making.

At the time, Harper had played 37 games in two years at Arden Street and was rated almost as highly as fellow 2010 draftee Shaun Atley.

However, Harper was dropped after the first three rounds of 2013 and has not played a senior game since.

Harper was the No. 27 pick in the 2010 NAB AFL Draft.

Harper +36 for Cooney. No way. Unless the dogs are going to cough up more than that!
Where is pick 36 mentioned? Dear God that's a second rounder... Not really familiar with Harper but he must be £&#@ing shit if you're adding pick 36. Cooney could easily do a Lake and play a key role in a premiership, but most of us on the Doggies board acknowledge he hasn't got a lot of trade value due to the obvious injury risk. Very bizarre decision if North offer that, unless he has more currency than we think?

Was not expecting this to happen to be honest. Was already thinking that you were paying overs with pick 36 for Cooney. Would 36 be swapped with our third rounder?

Id rather Cooney. Id thought north fans would be happy. They need to load up for a tilt at the premiership and you guys are a big chance next year , Harper hasn't played in 2 bloody years

2 days ago the media almost confirmed Cooney was going for our second rounder, and that was bulldust. I think we can be rest assured knowing North are not capable of being that stupid to trade Harper and second rounder for someone not at the top of priorities ( surely no club would)

Yes but three years ago he played like four- five decent quarters of footy.

Extrapolate that and by 2018 he'll be up around 10-12 disposals per game.

Must keep.

Dude, haven't you been reading Tas' posts? It's all Brad Scott's fault that Harper's done nothing for two years

Have we got a mole in the organisation?

Very, very ****ing weird development and frankly one that makes not a whole lot of sense from where I'm sitting.

Idiotic comes to mind.

Harps must be keen to make a fresh start in a new environment. That's the most logical thing I can think of at this stage.

Have to say it's come from left-field this one.
