Probably good for us that he hasnt reached a level where he would be the number 1 ruck at many/any clubs

Maybe he could be at Port

But then again i dont think we lose much if Draper did a hammy and missed say 6 weeks and we played Bryan as the #1 man either

He would be losing a bit of morale aswell though. Probably knows the love for Draper whilst also when they drop Phillips isnt picked in the 22, then a late in, then subbed at half time when we had nothing to lose, then dropped the following wk to VFL again

I reckon he'd know after his stints in the AFL that he's not really ready yet

Even if he thought he was ready and not getting games behind Flip, how much longer is Flip's career realistically going to last?

We haven't lost a young player to another club for reasons of opportunity since Josh Jenkins went to Adelaide.

Would be handy if he could find a bit of white line fever as well.
This is what I was getting at the other week…..he should have attacked that senior game like mad man, not like it was just another game.

Physicality is part of it but so is mindset - Draper was a lunatic from day 1. He’s not Draper, and shouldn’t try to be, but he needs to find a little bit of crazy to complement his obvious craft and footy ability.

If we're gonna insist on playing 2 rucks surely he starts getting the nod ahead of flip. At minimum, he's at least less of a liability with ball in hand...

Flip seems to be getting worse with every minute of afl game time he receives

Have not seen the game so I can not make many comments on him this week.
Rucked against Hudson O'Keefe who the Blues picked up in the PSD . Was Vic Metro number 1 ruck . Trained with us for part of the pre season.
Harry Lemmey was the other ruck picked up in round 3 of last years draft. Was a bit of a slider over last year. Was highly rated as a forward early on.

25 disposals
9 marks
2 tackles
31 hitouts
5 clearances.

Huge game
Should earn him another berth and a sustained run
Wonder if next 4 opposition being quite tough might see him held back

I don't understand why he wouldn't have played the last 4 given how shite Phillips has been (wasn't awful against the Blues but its all relative) and given their age profiles.

His battle will be now that we have entered the phase where winning is the priority and no longer developing

Were picking best 22 and im not sure they see him as that right now, obviousily

Phillips has more forward ability aswell right now. Also for example this week id feel far more confident with Flip vs Darcy and LJackson than Bryan

Is Darcy back? Sounded like he'd miss til the bye
Still, Jacksons engine is gonna run flip/draper off their feet.
Id back Bryan/draper in and roll the dice

Draper struggling with a hip and may not get back for Freo. This guy has to play. I would hate to think what the Dockers do with Jackson and Darcy against Phillips and possibly Weideman.

Simply has to play and was in good form last week despite the overall result. Strong marks, worked around the ground, tap work has always been relatively nice. Good litmus test against one of, if not the best ruck duo in the comp;

Probably gets more out of rucking full games in the VFL than part-time in the AFL, better to sacrifice Phillips for that purpose.

He needs to start spending more time forward. AFL or VFL level. The way forward is for him to ruck in tandem.

Yes, perhaps they're asking him to do more around the ground at VFL level, or perhaps the idea is he'll play more ruck minutes and Draper does the FWD / Ruck cameo?

Either way, he's physically a year or two off being able to really do it at AFL level so it's not really harming him to let him hone his craft and beat up on other ruckmen in the VFL.

No spot for my boy this week.
Starting to think the coach may not rate him due to a lack of physical presence for a big guy.
I still think he is 2 years away from being ready but he will have to start on the angry pills soon. has the form and ability. Seems to be lacking some white line fever.
He may well get offers to play somewhere else but no matter where he goes he is still 2 years away from being the player he can be and who knows , maybe the physical streak is not in him or far a tall bloke he is just not strong.

I'm still thinking he'll be a late in. We've done the late change to bring the second ruck in a couple of times this year I believe, not sure why we'd go away from 2 rucks this week especially against Darcy/Jackson.

really feel for him - just has to force his way out at the end of the year. Will come as a bargain pickup for someone, I think he could be had for a 4th to 3rd round upgrade
