Emergency at least shows he's in the frame.
We have to have either two rucks in the team or one in the team and one in the emergencies... otherwise Draper pulls up sore and we have no ruck.

Bryan has been the third option for a few years already, so makes sense he would now be the emergency with Phillips being managed.

The thing I find interesting about Nick is when the ball is on the deck he really gets into those sorts of contests. It’s like he puts his head down and really burrows in and scraps. It’s quite unusual to watch.

Well my boy finally got to play seniors again. Bit of a quiet game. Did not do much wrong but it was just an okay effort. Took one nice contested mark and had more hit outs than Sam but Bailey Williams dominated them both as far as hit outs went. Hope he gets another game next week. He may not be physically ready and still one step back from AFL level right now but he I think he needs to be rewarded for his good VFL form with another game.
This week.
3 kicks
3 handballs
2 marks
1 tackle
10 hit outs
4 score involvements
Good to see him get a game but more work to do.

Bit disappointing - would have thought he’d come out like a rabid dog to make that spot his own. He was OK but that’s all.

Give him at least another week though.

You may be waiting for him to be a rabid dog. Not really him. Could possibly be something that stops him from reaching his full potential. He is not a guy who takes a backwards step from a contest but he is not really a physical beast either . I doubt there will ever be much bash and crash.

I haven't seen the game but I've seen the hit out numbers.

Despicable.

Draper and Bryan have a very nasty habit of completely tanking when they are in the same team.

It's almost like they know how excited we all get.

He'll be omitted next week, just looking at how Scott makes his team usually.

But it's the wrong call. Phillips is handy depth. Bryan is the future. Need to get him used to AFL pace.
He also mentioned that they chose to rest Flip and that Bryan got an opportunity due to Shiel being a late out. I think we'll see Flip back in next week

I thought he looked ok and was getting in the right spots and moves very nice for a guy that size. Hopefully a couple more pre seasons gets the required strength was always going to be the long haul. He looked flat after the game I thought probably disappointed being subbed. If his body holds up I think we have a good one here.

Wright is supposed to play either next week or the week after (possibly a VFL game before coming into the AFL, although Laverde didn’t).

So whoever plays next week of Flip and Bristle comes out the week after for 2MP

Back to the VFL for my boy this week.
Rucked against Cooper Keogh who is a decent size ruck from Coburg Districts and Jacob Edwards who North picked up a couple of years ago and is a bit on the skinny size.
19 Disposals - 12 kicks and 7 handballs
32 hit outs
2 marks
2 tackles
5 clearances
Was the standard VFL game for him lots of good stuff. Not enough marks. In the best 5 or so on the ground.
For him to make an impact at senior level he has to get stronger in the contest. He has no issues jumping in the ruck and does not back down but he lacks the strength in marking contests and can be moved of the ball too easily. Would be handy if he could find a bit of white line fever as well. He plays too nice. He is not soft but he is also not physical enough at this stage for a bloke who is around 100kg.
He has all the tools. Just not the physical strength.

100% correct, needs to add a bit of mongrel to his game.

Looks like he's happy plodding along in the two's, has no physicality or presence atm.
