It was an interesting battle with Moyle.

I thought Bryan had the better of the first half. Moyle had the better of the second half.

My impression was that Bryan had more hitouts to advantage and that he did more with the ball. On this point, Bryan is a natural footballer, so much so that if he was 15cm shorter I think he'd still have pushed onto an AFL list. But being an effective ruck and being a good footballer have almost nothing to do with each other.

As the game wore on Moyle came into his own as he could just stand and deliver. Bryan didn't really go with him around the ground.

I don't think that game told us much we didn't already know. He can play the game but doesn't have a natural big man's game.

Earned his game today after great vfl form. Guy has talent.

Bombers needed him today with Goldie injured (coach said ankle from q1 last week) or needing a rest. Plus Draper out.

Young and developing… big gap from vfl to afl (especially in ruck) and it shows why he’s 3rd in line.

Hopefully Goldie is back to #### those ####### #### ##### next week. #### Carlton. #######.

He offers more around the ground than the other two
At this stage I think Goldy offers more around the ground. He is calm and has decent skills.

I would like to see Nick in a slower game though, this one was fast paced all night, tough to go 80% ruck time coming out of the VFL given that.

We really did seem to want to play fast for large chunks tonight

Had more disposals today than either of them has managed this season.
Written with confidence so am guessing the stats back that up. Just not a believer that it translated into game influence.
Can’t remember a single influential play
  • No goals?
  • No big defensive intercepts?
  • No down the line marks?
  • No bollocking to drive the ball forward?
  • No assists?
Little influence

That’s before even considering he was against Moyle and not a first string like Goldie has been up against.

Which is a problem. I havent been big on Draper this year before he was injured either. The fact Goldstein has come in at 36 and taken the spot is a worry in the short term.

Bryan might still get there, but he isnt physically ready yet to be effective at AFL level as an 80% ruck, and I am not sure he has the requisite forward craft
He might get there, but it will be the last thing that comes.

We went pretty quickly from losing our minds about him not getting a game to losing our minds about him playing a game.
Might be a thesis in that for some maths / stats post grad -
“Are BigFooty posters fickle AF or do the extreme opinion lunatics just swing threads from one side to the other?”

Vote here

Ok, don’t vote here, I’ve already moved onto the next hot take I read.

I thought Moyle looked good - is 206cm and 105kgs as well. I think Goldie with recent form would have been pantsed and we lose by a fair bit more. With Bryan you can see something but it is such a slow burn - still needs to build more of a physique and tank (if he can - he might be fast twitch low endurance). Said it two years ago but will reset and say again - is 2 years from potentially having the body required. Also it would be nice if we had a tall forward of centre that could take a few contested marks.

Beaten by a 22 year old 4 gamer, clearly not up to AFL level. Was gifted a game after Witts was named out no doubt but Goldy slots straight back in next week. Goldy plays today and we win, plain and simple.

If he lowered his eyes and not just snapkicked it into the forward line he could have had an impact. Would like to see him play as second ruck at some point.

They had nearly the same statistics, Bryan played 13 less minutes. It was at the very least a drawn match up.

Pick the people that don't know anything about the VFL.

Moyle has been the best ruck in the VFL for the past 3 years. He's a very good player. It was a good H2H clash where Bryan was better before HT and Moyle better after.

But what if Witts had also played?

Cant cry about our first choice ruck being out but not theirs

Not crying about it just stating Goldy would’ve been the difference if he played (Witts also in obviously would’ve neutralised that advantage).

If Witt’s played we would’ve jabbed up Goldy and played him. Witts out allowed him to have a week off that he no doubt needed (and deserved) so I’m not against the call.

How about if Goldy doesn't play but Merrett kicks those goals instead of missing?
