I imagine he would, but it depends on how long he sees himself playing. Just because he's broken the club games record and is already saddling up for 2012, does that mean he thinks that's his last year?

I think that if he sees himself playing one more season after next year he will give it up at the end that season. I reckon he'd like to at least have one year playing with the new captain to teach him some stuff.

hey I love the Boom but it shouldn't be his decision we do need to have the future plan set.

Who should it be and how long we expect it to be them.

I also belive we should be setting it up as long term not a year by year basis

Maybe offer Boom an extension if he stands down to ensure we have a long transition or name the next captain as co Captain this year

Pretty confident we have our future plan completely mapped out. I don’t think we need to worry about having Boomer around for a year to hold this someone’s hand.

I have sneaky feeling that Brad has chatted with him about it, and I doubt Boomer told him how it is.

Nothing wrong with year-by-year. Strategic planning is overrated.

You misunderstood me I believe we need to start the implementation now bring in the new captain but do it nice

In the past I was all for this long term captain thing but I'm starting to think it's really just a silly piece of romance that has little positive effect but is captivating in the Voss or Carey sense. I look at the best teams of recent times and it's all about how the playing group respond to that individual. If Boomer were to step down for next year, Petrie should be the successor because he our next best leader and the players would respond best to him. A couple years after that it would be Swallow or Ziebell, and so on.

The time is right for a change. I luv boomer, but we need to appoint A.Swallow as captain and J. Ziebell as vice. Where not going to move forward until this happens, we need to start this new era and it's time.

Harvey should have given up the cap this yr as rawling has retired. It signified an end to an era and boomer should have handed the reins over.

I feel the captaincy titled is pretty overrated. Similar to the 'head coach' role. It is all about the supporting cast. Mick Malthouse is obviously a very good coach, but look at all the support and resources at his disposal? Same thing with captaincy.

With strong leaders at the club to support Boomer like Drew, Swallow, Ziebell, Wells... does it really matter who gets the gig? It should be Boomer's decision and for mine, he can have it as long as he wants it.

Couldn't have said it better myself :thumbsu:

Like Ponting, who I thought should step aside and just bat in his twilight years, I feel the same about Boomer.

Step aside and just play.

That's for his sake though - wouldn't mind seeing him without that burden for his last few years. In terms of the team, I don't think it really matters. Whether Swallow, or whoever, is actually captain while Boomer is just a player, or playing while Boomer is captain, he's still there to learn from right?

I agree. But who am I agreeing with? YOTR or Northworth?

YOTR's possessed Northworth, who's post here is one of the more bizarre I've seen in awhile. Welcome to the off season! :thumbsu:

Oh, and Boomer can have it as long as he and Bon see fit IMO. They'll make a well considered decision, whichever way it goes.
