He's someone that we were linked with close to the draft. built like Bailey Dale when he was drafted but we'll need a new guy running off of half back with Richards as a full time mid.

Can play - we really do seem to go for high character types these days (a captain and a co-captain so far this draft)

STRENGTHS:
  • Competitiveness
  • Consistency
  • Intercept marking
  • Kicking
  • Rebounding

IMPROVEMENTS:
  • Composure
  • Strength

Jaques is a joy to watch in full flight and can just about do it all down back. He is often entrusted with the kick-in duties and distributes the ball beautifully. It's no wonder, then, that he opted to go by foot with 16.9 of his average 22.6 disposals this Coates Talent League season. He is polished too, going at 78 per cent disposal efficiency during the National Championships.
There is good variety to Jaques' kicking, able to launch the ball long or pick out short targets with exceptional vision. The latter method sees him either be adventurous with inboard passes, or run hard to follow up and get the ball back. Either way, Jaques is capable of gaining quick metres and sparking daring transitional play by taking the game on.

A key facet of Jaques' positional versatility is his ability to play deep or high in defence. On the last line, he mops up the spills and quickly relieves pressure with his ball use, seemingly always getting to the height or fall of the contest. Beyond defensive 50 he charges forward with repeat running spurts, and peels off to intercept with genuine bravery and flair.
While still relatively lightly framed, Jaques is willing to put his body on the line when flying for overhead marks. His best grabs come when jumping over the back of opponents, and he averaged six marks per game in Falcons colours. He also applies himself in a tackling sense, though can still build some strength to stick them more consistently.

Further filling out his 184cm frame will allow Jaques to hold his composure more consistently under physical pressure. He has the capacity to quickly identify and hit up targets by hand and foot, but is sometimes rushed into dumping the ball long with oncoming heat or when streaming forward at full tilt. It will also aid his improved intercept marking game.

In terms of overall consistency, though, Jaques seldom fails to perform. He was recognised as one of the Falcons' best six players in all bar two of his 14 appearances this season, and started the campaign with five disposal hauls of 25 or more in his first seven outings. That kind of output, on top of his evolution as a player, made him a reliable figure in his role.

This is a player type that is ideal for the modern game. Fast, good delivery by foot, vision, leadership, courage, intercepts well. That all equals swift transitions and delivery into an uncrowded forward line - one of our biggest challenges.

If he lives up to the player summary he’ll be an excellent acquisition.

Oh no….

A new name challenge for our posters

Jaques, Jakes, Jacks…..what else?

I know there is a nicknames thread somewhere but my early picks would be

Nicho or Trooper (Cooper Hynes)
Chirac or Frenchy….which will become French Fries, and then Chip (Lachie Jaques)

Jockey, Jock, Robbie (Josh Dolan)

Surely Hynes is Beans

Was hoping for Angus Clarke, but Lachie is clearly a player of similar ilk and a real list need. Good work Dogs

First thoughts after watching his involvements vs Allies.
Let me preface this by saying I put a premium on executing under pressure.

He appears to be a sub standard decision maker under pressure. Chooses the wrong option constantly.
Not just with the decision but then execution of the skill is impacted.
He is fumbly. Missed a regulation tackle.
Poor handballs and missed targets in relatively standard plays.
Not a one touch player in perceived pressure scenarios. Ground balls fumbled in D50.
Do that in the league and it will invite pressure and lead to turnover scores.
The kick across goal at the business end of the allies game is just a poor choice that is compounded by poor execution.
That's a pressure moment in a big game that was not passed. Not a good sign.

Does he look ok distributing the ball in space, sure.
Can he intercept mark from being in a good position. Sure. Covers the ground ok. The type of player that will be at hai best and can accumulate when in space and be part of link up chains to move the ball down field.

I wish him the best but his areas of improvement, are hard to improve.
Alot of instinctive qualities he lacks.
On the weight of it not a player I would have selected.
