Pick 20# Welcome to the Bulldogs Cooper Hynes

I understand the criticism. We need another effective small forward and / or wing rotation player. But with Berry and Reid unavailable, stocking up the Midfield depth is the next priority. Hynes fits that bill perfectly.

Ideally, im thinking Hynes will operate the work horse type position and will maintain his clean hands and become a silky distributor to the speedy Sanders in the next few years, as we transition the playing group.

Trust the process, I suppose.

Fairly solid pick up.

There are a few more picks to address some speed
As much as i believe Sanders will be a really solid player for us we sold the farm for him which affected an early pick for us this year. The cascade affect of that pick might haunt us as this year seemed to be very top heavy with speedy mids.
Now at picks in the late 20s I'm not sure we are going to pick up Chris Judd. Speedy players that are not great with the ball do nothing for us.

There are still good users left ...

So just pass on our picks tonight?

Honestly when you go through the draft over the years, the amount of outstanding players who have had long careers that have been drafted from pick 25 onwards is huge.

The draft is a lottery. No guarantees pick 4 is going to be better and have longer career than pick 34 or pick 7 will be better than 57. You get success stories all the way through drafts.

We have two picks. Nail them both now.

We actually have people on this board who are hoping we trade out of these picks ... into a much shallower draft next year 🤪

Welcome Cooper.

Congratulations on being drafted.

Sneaky feeling this kid will soon be a fan favourite in the Mitch Hahn style.

I don’t get why anyone would get this bent out of shape by someone else suggesting trading a draft pick.
How is it getting bent out of shape?

It's not the brightest move though. Just because Norf offered a first rounder doesn't mean others will ... and it's been stated many times next year isn't very deep.

We also just traded up and have been hinting that we wanted to trade up this draft. To trade out is completely the opposite.

I'd put my house on it not happening

Early second round picks typically attract a trade premium. It would be unsurprising for an F1 to be offered for ours or Richmond’s pick. In this scenario, steadfastly shutting down the prospect of trading it irrespective of what’s offered would be “not the brightest move”.

Sure... and the odds are that we use the picks because it's been stated we want to use up to 5

My first thought after watching his highlights was Clay Smith too.

Definitely doesn't look slow and has that burst that should take him a long way.

With all our 'wish list' players gone before our 1st pick, Hynes was best available I reckon. For mine, despite what we know of him via highlights etc, he is difficult to predict as to how good he can be and what role he will fill. Maybe that's a good thing and we might have a very versatile player on our hands.

I get he’s not lighting quick but in his highlights reel he looks like he has a fine top speed.

Looks like he will fill out nicely and be a big body in the middle. Clearly by adding him and Kennedy we’ve identified it as a need.

The fact he can be damaging forward is a big plus.

Having watched a few as well this is what I don't get.

He's not fast but he isn't slow either.

He's an average speed footballer with neat and creative disposal from what I've seen.

No bad thing at all and I think some posters have become fixated on speed as a quality in an AFL footballer.

Agreed. Aside from midfield speed, the big bodied mid is what we need. What was one of our biggest issues in the final?

Too easily pushed off the ball. Got to stop that. Got to get more hardness in.

I think there's a big chance that Joel Freijah becomes a big bodied midfielder as well at some point.

It doesn't sound like he played their in high level junior footy but I think he has traits that suggest that he can, once his tank is up to scratch.

He won't be Bont mark II (who can be?) but he seems to have that bit more time and space when in possession that good midfielders have.

Whe Twomey mocked him to us I was disappointed, but this video that someone posted in the draft thread changed my mind (namely from 4:00 onwards). He's actually got some lovely touch I reckon, something I hadn't seen anyone say about him - some moments of finesse that I wasn't expecting. Plays with great energy and strength. There's a lot of upside here. He was clearly the best player available in my mind, it's a good pick.

That miss from 2m out gets me really excited
