It’s not necessarily the output of Will that concerns me. I’ve said very early that other than “great character and puts his head in the hole” he has no outstanding athletic or pure footballing attribute that you can work around. From that draft, I’m confident I can see what type of player McDonald, Campbell, Perkins, Cox, Hollands, Bruhn etc. will be, despite their average output to date.

I’m not completely putting a line through him, but I’m still concerned.
For mine that middle stretch of the year when he was winning clearances at will was enough of a glimmer for me of a pure footballing attribute. It's one of the hardest skills in the game.

To get 8 clearances in your 20th game shows me there's something to work with (and backing it up with 5 and 6+s in the weeks after shows it wasnt a fluke); guys like Libba, Neale etc (as currently the best clearances stat players in the game) were only just getting to those numbers after 25-30 games, and that's with a relatively clean run at it.

Liked his game today

Another full preseason into him and we will be able to see his true potential

Genuinely curious here, what did you like about it?. 15 of his 17 were uncontested, attended 22 centre bounces for 2 clearances, he was bullied by their mids all day.

He laid a couple of nice tackles, there was one on the wing which was nice and tough. But other than that, what did I miss?.

Hey we all hope you that are backing him are correct.
Is silly to think anything else.
Respectfully, for someone that claims to have a view of the inner sanctum, your criticism of Will doesn’t really support that.

Todd and Al rate him highly, whilst appreciating he needs continuity after so much interruption.

My judgement is my judgement. I’m also glad those guys rate him. Doesn’t mean everyone does. I’ve never met either of those gentleman fyi.

The game is built on pace and ability to spread. If you lack that in the middle you’d want to be big and strong over the ball. Or find some pace

I suppose we have different expectations of a 20 years olds ability to be “big and strong over the ball”.

So we agree he’s slow, that’s a great start.

I don’t expect him to be strong over the ball today. But you lot seem to think he’ll just arrive.

I’m not so sure is all.

So we’re into Dylan Stephens , apparently is quick.
That’s rather interesting.

LDU , Wardlaw, Stephens, Simpkin then the part timers and maybe Reid.

As I said interesting

Interesting. You previous post did give the impression that you did expect him to be “big and strong over the ball”. A pretty imbecilic expectation considering he played on Petracca and Viney (in the peak of their powers) for periods today. But fair enough if you want to backtrack out of that one.

I’ve seen significant growth in his game this year, albeit inconsistent. His games against Collingwood and Essendon were excellent. As impressive as anything we’ve seen from our other mids at the same age.

Also we don’t agree on him being slow.

Man I couldn’t give a **** about what you think tbh.

But. Appreciate your right to an opinion.

If we’re giving games to Curtis Taylor everyone should stfu about Will and let him develop as is

We all know how young Dylan will be treated here if he puts up these numbers for us next season. FWIW he’s 22 and has only played 40 games so plenty of time to develop. For Dylan’s sake I hope he has at least one elite trait, apparently that‘s what you need for BF to over look all the other deficiencies in your game. Oh well.

I didn’t say he was any good I’m just surprised we’re into another mid with our plethora of them is all.

I could jump into the Powell thread and read about how good he’s going.

The smart posters wanted Hollands and they I’d suggest will be proven correct.

Wasn‘t directed at you, sorry if it came across that way, more a general comment. I guess beggars can’t be choosers and we have to take fringe players who actually want to play for us in the hope that we can develop them and we both know how that turns out. Stats wise he seems like a lot of other players on our list who just don’t get enough of the ball and aren’t damaging when they do get it.
