Yeah on the back of pumping putrid Port Power….. a closer look at our form is less flattering. Smacked by dogs, smacked by saints after half time, just beat crows at home, west coast & kangaroos irrelevant, good wins away to freo and port. Make no mistake Brisbane is a sterner test. However we have the ‘home’ ground advantage and had the week off …. It’s 50/50 to be honest.

I believe 1 or 2 selections for Geelong this week are still line ball and the weather Saturday evening will have the final say as to who might be the unlucky one and who's sub.A few are in the mix for the last 2 spots,I'll take choices though against having none and struggling to field a fit side.

Yes, I suppose I'm thinking of the old dinosaurs that don't want interstate teams to run off with the cup. There was plenty of that when we fell to West Coast back in the day, compounded the shame. Will never forget their crowd in technicolor yellow caps. Then we go to people hating COLA Swans.
All history. We've earned with pain, every PF/GF we get into, so stuff the other whingers.

The GWS vs Brisbane final was an extreme running game. The total distances run by both teams was extraordinary.

GWS set a record for most kms with a team total 318kms. This is the highest ever total distance recorded. No wonder they were cooked in the last quarter.

Brisbane were not far behind with 308km total for the game. This ranks number 7 on the all time leaderboard for a game.

A week is a long time to recover for modern athletes but it may still have an impact on Brisbane this week.

I’ve taken a look at how other high ranking teams have performed the following week and it looks like they generally recover ok.

Henry to play on Hipwood.

Blicavs to play on Daniher. Daniher & Blicavs both playing the 2nd ruck role so makes sense.

SDK not required unless they plan on deploying Blicavs elsewhere.

Bews will be needed for Cameron or Bailey.

Tuohy is battle hardened and is our best sub option. Can play multiple roles.

Mullin to play a hard tag on Zorko.

Atkins to go head to head with Neale. But will take a team effort to stop him. Stewart could even play a run with role to prevent getting tagged himself.

Dunkley will run with Danger all day.

Cameron and Stengle are key. If they kick straight we win. Both love big games and kicking bags.

Good luck to whoever is tasked with Holmes, he is fit and will be gut running all night long - desperate to play in a grand final.

My major concern is Oscar McInerney, he will give their mids first crack more often than not. We dominated Brisbane after he went down earlier in the year. Very underrated ruckman. We will need Stanley to play out of his skin. Do we prioritize stopping their small forwards or big forwards? Bews or SDK? Big decisions for CS and the team.

Our forward line is the best in the comp. Our defence is rock solid. Just need our mids to compete hard and even the contetests and its ours to lose.

McInerney was torching Conway in our matchup earlier this year, but got injured from memory early 2nd quarter (8th min) or something like that... Then the game changed completely in our favour.

That's really interesting, might explain why Bris were 40 points behind, they got jumped.
Hopefully Scott conveys to our runners to hit hard, who are probably better at pacing themselves, and smart use of the bench.

The behind the goals vision that FoxFooty/other networks provide would have made for interesting viewing.
Last 15 minutes, it really did seem as though the Giants changed the way they had played all evening. There appeared to be very little direction or leadership shown. Perhaps it was fatigue as almost everyone came to a halt.

I wonder if Whitfield sustained a toe injury because I heard he had during the game. He is their barometer. Provides a lot of the run-and-carry and sets them up from defense in a way Haynes once did for a few years.

The longer the gap between when we beat port the more nervous I’m getting.
Our winning streak against the lions doesn’t make me feel any better. There’s been a few teams we’ve had a streak against recently that have smashed that on their way to flag wins: Hawks, Demons and Tigers 3 I can think of.

On the one hand our side looks to have little weaknesses across the ground.
Yet for much of the season our form has been up and down even within games.

I'm honestly shocked at Bews' comeback. Don't get me wrong he did a job against Port. But after the Adelaide game when he was dropped for Freo and Stkilda I would've had him 100/1 odds of playing finals.

Not surprised Bews is in the mix, horses for courses logic. He has hardly impressed in recent matches but he is a known entity to the selectors. Singling him out for a pre-prelim interview implies something. It would be odd to do that and then dash his hopes on Thursday.
