He's already ahead despite not playing against the minnows, which proves there's no reliance

No he's not, they're both on 27 goals . . .

Franklin has 60 more possessions.

You're banking on Hawkins kicking a bag against GWS to catch up, hence your statement that Hawkins hadn't even played the minnows yet.

Back to the topic, I noticed Bartel got 10 AFLCA votes this weekend, ahead of Ablett who got 5.

I don't know much about the validity of these votes, but I've been told that it's important? Either way, you can see why Chris Scott rates him so much:

"I said to him post-game, 'I had hoped that you would stand up when the game was really on.'
"But I should know by now that he will just do it."

Legend of the game.

Hey mate, remember this when you were pumping up a Hawk?

Yes, that was in reference to debutant Sam Grimley.

In terms of the overrated Bartel, one feels obliged to notice that the only games in the last 3 years where he has gotten 30 possessions or more is against the expansion teams.

Also his best three games this year are against Richmond, Gold Coast and Port Adelaide.

Bartel needs to be held to a higher standard than a two game player like Sam Grimley, after all he does make claims of being a champion.

Bartel doesn't make claims to being a champion. It's everyone else that calls that out. Except you, of course.

He is very self-aware as a footballer and has claimed that nobody rates him because we're all obsessed with fantasy football. It's a dodgy excuse because the Geelong BnF just isn't based on Dream Team numbers, nor is AA selection.

So Bartel clearly rates himself and it aware of the reduced esteem he is held in these days.

Sorry champ, I can't let you move the goalposts like that. If a performance against a competitive side is credible, then it's credible for everyone.

You sure didn't say 'Grimley's performance was credible - for a spud in his 4th year on a list playing his 1st game'.

I didn't comment on the credibility of Bartel's performance against the Gold Coast, just that we have seen that Bartel relies on expansion teams for elite performances in the last 3 years. The pattern exists regardless of your inability to accept it.

"We are in the world of SuperCoach and fantasy football, although people tell me I still do all right, but I know it's not going to get me All-Australians. That's just people not understanding the game"

Now that is terrific. Thank you for posting as supporting evidence an article which includes the following:

"New Cats coach Chris Scott is one of many at Skilled Stadium who are bemused by the fact that the No. 3, as silly as it sounds, continues to be under-rated. "

It does sound silly.

His Norm Smith came in the last three years, didn't it? Does your definition of expansion teams include Collingwood?

The odd game against Collingwood and Sydney for example have been factored in.

Bartel still relies heavily on the expansion teams.

More worrying is his reliance this year on mediocre/poor opposition.

When it's a highly competitive Gold Coast side, who cares?

On an individual level, there is a big difference. The TEAMS may have been competitive, but Bartel would be more likely to have a young, inexperienced opponent and is able to fill his boots against such a player.

A load of shit, but I'll humour you.

So trumpeting Grimley's first game performance as somehow amazing was wrong of you?

Get out of my thread Podgey. You are ruining it with your offended.

I didn't trumpet his first game as amazing, however so far there is no reason to think that he is going to be capitalising on expansion teams, such as Bartel has done.

Sorry, I think you've had one of your comprehension fails.

You highlighted Chris Scott calling Bartel under-rated and commented that it sounded silly. I rather agree.
