Player Watch #32: Toby Pink - has been delisted, with the commitment to re-select him in the Rookie Draft

If Comben comes in, and plays the same way that Pink played this weekend, will you call for him to be dropped immediately?
is that a serious question?

his opinions on players are locked in before they play a game. any evidence contrary to the original opinion is ignored in favour of unjustifiably defending it.

I don't mind anyone having an opinion but a complete inability to 1) admit you're wrong and 2) be consistent are not the best traits or good to generate rational discussion on a football forum.

Ones playing forward and relief ruck and is contracted for next year

The other is a mature age state league defender list clogger and will be off the list at years end
everyone has noted your ridiculous contradictions and yet you're still running with them.

actually dude, I'm wasting my time conversing here. only one sensible thing for me to do.

So one is a list clogger with a contract and your claiming the other is a list clogger that will be off the list at the end of the year.

Either way you spin it, both are list cloggers.

The only differential is that one has clogged our list for multiple years while the other 1 game.

Your definition of playing is very liberal as well. If you call doing two tenths of **** all for multiple years, playing. I call it being a hinderance and drain.

If you really want any to look at the value of the two players, the sunk cost of what we invested in CCJ is a lot more than Pink. By that measurement alone the performances of CCJ are even more disappointing.

so CCJ has sucked for 2 years (and one game) on our list and you ignore that but you're happy to go over the top about a bloke in his first game.

either give it a rest of try and be remotely consistent and balanced with your opinions.
thats how he rolls, nice to see him off Bailey Scotts case for a change.

He was, what 20 years old? Pink has been around senior football for a long time. Strange comparison.
still a huge step up in level. souva won a frosty miller medal before he showed consistancy at AFL level.

for what its worth iam far from convinced of Pinks long term prospects but at the very least would like a few games before i make my mind up on the matter, and at present there are hardly turnstyles ticking over on our list with players dripping with attributes to do better.

iam not saying 5 years Like CCJ Or Edwards had, but maybe 6 weeks.

Dermy actually commented on how Larkey was getting to all the right places. He recognised that Larkey had a future. As we all know, he was right. Just, maybe, some of us are forgetting that one A. Clarkson is watching all this play out too. If Toby holds his spot, there will be a good reason. Some of that might be that Comben is not match fit yet. Blasting Toby for looking lost in his first AFL start - in a completely new defensive setup, is a pretty cheap shot. On top of everything, Corr was clearly not match fit. My own sense is that Toby is, ultimately, not up to it. However, I would dearly love him to prove me wrong. If he’s selected this weekend, I wish him the very best.

Yes.

I also saw him flounder in almost all of those one v one contests.

He’s got no athletic ability.

The best defenders spoil the ball when out of position.

He’s got no chance.
Yeah his inability to win 1v1 contests was a big concern.

He also copped a lot of crap for goals that clearly weren't his fault throughout the day.

Disagree. Backs and Forwards rely on good disposal from their midfielders up the ground.

You can have Tony Lockett sitting in the goal square, but if your midfielders cant kick it to him, he is going to struggle.

Conversly, you could have had Steven Silvagni in the backline last week. But if the disposal comes in as fast and clean as it did last week, he is going to have goals kicked on him.

Pink was playing his first game and got a baptism of fire. The disposal coming in was too quick and accurate. Its not that Riccardi and Hogan were taking speccys all game. The ball was coming in too fast, too clean and too often (how many inside 50's did they have?).

Give him a break. Lets get the midfield defensive pressure up. lets reduce the number of inside 50's. Lets reduce the fast and clean ball use, by applying more pressure.

And then lets how Pink goes....

Not sure he is good enough.

With Corr being our high price recruit and is utterly useless, Pnk will definitely get selected again and deservedly so.

Put pink on the last line so that he doesn't have to do too much, let the more counterattacking stuff to the more experienced defenders

Or, alternatively, had his first defensive 1v1 at AFL level.
Not alternatively, he lost 4 out of 5.

Doesn’t deserve to be written off but it’s a clear area he needs to do better at if he’s going to lock up a spot at AFL level.

He's clearly taking aim at Pink because he's getting a game ahead of his beloved Biggy.

Pink had the most spoils of anyone on the ground - 7.

Seven spoils per game would rank you around the 10th best in spoils in the league in most years.

It was his first game at this level - give the guy a bit of a go before writing him off completely.

Last weeks stats. McKay 5 kicks, Pink 6 kicks, 4 hand passes. My guess is that Pinks disposals at least went to the right team!
