Player Watch #34: Jack Graham - MOVED TO WCE - PICK 42 Received

most should also realize, but sentiment rightly or wrongly is getting in the way
sadly i see jack as a pressure player only which to me MRJ has pretty much swallowed his one wood and cumberland, sonsie and ross all now best 22 have jack covered in other areas.

football can be a brutal (dog eat dog) game and jacks earnings will be under the microscope..... well paid dosen't equal depth player who has limitations

depth players aint gunna be considered for captaincy

due to his gut running and game style, injuries have now taken their toll for this one paced battering ram....

poor bloke need to be 100% fit and playing well to be 21st or 22nd player picked.

as with lloyd, butler, roach, ellisx2, chol, higgins, markov and others.

i feel those in power have left the door open to explore other options because next year he wont be offered an attractive contract.

I rate him still but 23 would be a year he needs to step up a bit. Only other thing I would flag is that he is fairly injury prone. Might not miss that many games but is generally playing through something. Could be blessing trading him for the right deal in the event his body fails him in the back end of his career given how young he is and already copping injuries.

This whole JGTI trade is made up in the media. A number of clubs asked about him, but is there any actual genuine stories of him wanting out?

Thing is, clubs know how valuable Jack is. Very valuable. Just in a way that fans don't notice or care about. Two Giants come in, other clubs hope something will slip. And who who they come circling about as first cab off he rank? They know JGTI is worth a lot more than what he gets paid or what a trade would be.

Agree, try and find another 2 way runner like JGTI there aren't that many out there. We would be crazy to let him go especially if we include Taranto & Hopper. Jack is going to be a very difficult match up once the pressure is off and support is there for him.

Agree completely.

To me this whole thing shows how much clubs that analyse players and how he game is played value Jack so highly they approach him at any chance. Even a very slight chance.

Trading is about needs. We need a KPF. Other clubs need mature midfielders with endurance. If we can find a player swap (direct or via a 3rd party with draft picks) that makes sense, we should consider it. I'd consider a guy like Darcy "Fat Boy" Fogarty gettable. Melbourne might try and sell Dimma a bit of Weid.

It would hurt to watch a legend like JGTI go out the door, but our chances of winning a premiership in 2023/24 go up if we have all the pieces of the puzzle.

Fogarty is contracted and not gettable after the season he had. Weideman has been horrendous for 3 years in one of the best teams in the comp. Massive dud.

Some people have rightly pointed out clubs have expressed interest in Graham before and nothing has happened. However bear in this mind there are some important differences this time.

Firstly we'll have little to no decent draft picks thanks to the Taranto and Hopper trades. Secondly, we will have good depth in midfield so we will be in a position to at least entertain a good trade offer. And thirdly we desperately need to draft a good KPF to replace Reiwoldt. Plus Graham is still contracted for 2023 so that would maximise his return. That's a lot of stars aligning.

Will it happen? No idea, probably not because there is nothing official at the moment. But I'd be shocked if it's not being seriously discussed behind closed doors.

Could always do Graham for Georgiades.

Spot on.

This time last year he was being touted as captain, now trade bait. Surely he hasn't gone backwards in 1 year.

Another bullshit non-story of which 90% are this time of year.

He had turf toe so underperformed this year. So maybe a perspective that he is under valued and more gettable.

But why do so may BF posters want him gone? He's worth so much more than we'd get.

I don't think anyone wants him gone, but we do need to trade away depth that has value in the market. With Torana and Hooperfield coming to us, JGTI is depth. He has higher market value than Ross, a player in a similar position. Thus, he's getting looked at by the media and perhaps a few opposition clubs.

I'd be happy if he stayed, but if the market is willing to overpay for him and that allows us to address a weakness elsewhere then the club may have to do it.

The 'overpay' is the thing for me.

He is worth a lot us IMHO, but whether he would attract something worth a consistent contributor at the highest level, and more so in finals, worth i don't think.

He could join the Richmond minor league team and have some fun in the sun with Brando, Marbs and Oleg.

GCS have picks 25, 31, 34 and 43. If we took 25+31 for JGTI, we could perhaps play hard ball with GWS and hold onto 19 and 30.

I have NFI if that's a trade either club would do, but I'm sure we're looking at a ton of options to make sure we can still bring in some kids or fill a gap in our list.

Exactly

People are just presuming that there is no position for Graham with Tarantino & Whopper coming into the team but i see it as the opposite and Graham getting more ball on the outside and with his run becoming more damaging. The player that will be effected the most would be cotchin and he will only play 13/14 games next year just to get to 300 and offer leadership and mentor younger players

Jack Graham could average 25+ touches next year and becoming more valuable as a free agent when he qualifies

Steps for Monday -

1) Do the Taranto Hooper deal for 12, 19 and Soldo.

2) THEN trade Graham or Short for a pick in the mid to late teens, so GWS don't have access to it.

3) Pursue an interim key fwd and Ruck for depth with a later pick or next years later picks.

4) Bank pick 15-18 and keep 30 for the draft. Take nest available KF and mid.

Reckon Rowell, Anderson, Miller would love graham next to them.

Would be a better fit than b Ellis imo

Whats everyone's opinion of Bauer as filling a need in our forward line? Is he just a tad too small- Brody Mihocek size?... Can he find a spot next year beside Cumberland, then take up the slack when Jack goes?

If he was a young Royce Hart then yes but based on exposed form there is no chance he reaches that level. He is the same size as Royce when he played Reserves but will require a stronger body to compete in the air with bigger AFL bodies but has shown AFL skills early in his career.

Showed some good signs in the 2s but needs to add some strength/ size and work on his ground level stuff to add an extra string to his bow.
Let him work on his craft at VFL level and see where that leads to. Don’t think at this stage though we should be expecting too much in 2023
