Player Watch #34: Jack Graham - MOVED TO WCE - PICK 42 Received

He also had a game in 2018 against Freo - Cotchin missed so they threw Graham into a full midfield role and he had 30 touches and kicked a goal. Was a big one for him.

EDIT: Make that 24 touches and a goal, and 7 tackles
Was that the game we absolutely belted them and they got every Brownlow vote? Lmao

If Bolton, Rioli and Baker left i'd keep Graham for 1-2 more years.
We know what we will get with him.....
I wonder if our offer to him was to make sure we get pick 22 though...
They're all our pacy senior players. Your suggestion is a recipe for disaster.

holy hell... we are playing a dangerous game here..
if things change and we are left with Graham it will be a unacceptable backfire by the club.
why would he leave as he has 4 years gifted to him? Hopefully the marriage rumour from weeks ago is true. This is white line fever shit though.

Gez a you buying this bs we offered him 4 years lool lucky it's one or 2 with KPI and lower money. So we offer a player 4 years to get a better pick this is not amateurs. Couldn't be further from the truth.

This is all going to plan between Matty Clarke & Blair Hartley

  • Matty Clark : Blair what can we do about Baker and you need to give me a leg up in the new job mate
  • Blair : Take JGTI as a free agent and we can sort Baker out later make sure its a good deal something like $600k x 4
*Matty Clark : Cool done that should get band 2 now what about Baker
* Blair : Wait im gonna match but increase by $200k a year and you need to get over that and i'll make it worth your while
*Matty Clark : Man I'll have to go $900k thats way too much
  • Blair : Nah Matty go $1 mil mate lets make sure , You know he will be VC at the eagles with Bakes as captain in 2 years
  • Matty Clark : OK i done it $ 1mill over 4 years
  • Cool you can have Bakes for F2 , We have enough picks this year

dealing with clubs that have tiger bonds in positions of power can only be a good thing.

Like him as a person from what I can see, but let's not kid ourselves - this bloke is a dead set plodder. Has never reached any great heights bar 1-2 great games/year. Remains slow and never accumulates significant ball. Also recently appears to be injury-prone although with Meehan at the club who knows how much of that is Graham vs club issue.

The FA deal to WCE should be straight forward and a very simple phone call; 'Hi WCE, please check with the AFL what your deal will net us in compo and upgrade it accordingly to secure us a 2nd round pick, as part of the deal for Baker. Cheers'.

Graham is 100% not worth P22ish in a trade. Baker isn't worth P12 (if Hawks get that after finals + trade for Barrass). Taking unders for Baker (P23) and overs for Graham (P22) is probably about right, especially in a draft where the top 30-40 players are apparently all quite good.

I feel that they think we already have three trade locks in Bolton, Baker and Rioil and don't need to push out any other players now. I think they believe we need the inside depth around stoppages to protect and guide the young mids that are about to join the club.

For mine, Graham is an average toiler at best and I'd prefer to see him traded but I can see why they may wish to keep him now as a bit of canon fodder and leadership for the group of young guns we have coming.

If we get a good return for Graham we should trade him. But Graham is a great guy to help young draftees mature. So losing him isn't just unalloyed awesomeness.

We need to balance talent in for experience, leadership and mentoring. So I am on the fence with JGTI. Lose him for pick 22 - GREAT! Keep him, OK not unhappy. (4 years a bit rich though)

For a season yes we could, but 4. Even 2 is over. He plays high half forward with midfield time. Where is FOS or any other high draft pick going to start their careers, same spot. So yes, on merit/mentorship deserves another year or max 2, but at what expense.

Exactly

I reckon the 4 years is obviously an attempt to push for that better FA compo.

If we get pick 22 then we make out like bandits this year. Some year's the good players stop in the mid teens. This year it goes to about 30 from what I have read. So what is in effect a first rounder for JGTI. I'll take that.

But if he stays for 4 years and we do draft well he will be pushed out. Which seems stupid to do up front. So I reckon it's all about ensuring WC do the right thing by us - and Jack of course

Feels like we're overrating WCs interest in him. If I'm WC right now I'm not upping my bid I'm backing out. Which leaves us with a plodder who cant get on the park for FOUR YEARS. We also seem incapable of dropping him so thats FOUR YEARS in our best 23 clogging a path into the seniors for a talented youngster.

I'm very much hoping that we know what we are doing.
