A contracted player, if he was smart he would work on his craft... then once Drew and Waite are gone he would be given all the chances he wants.... dont even know what he is worth to be honest... 2nd rounder is probably all we can hope for...

In the best players in the VFL twice this year.

Wouldn't have played in any decent AFL side.

Playing a permanent key forward position with the North Ballarat midfield getting destroyed every week, I'm surprised it was even that many.

Fev kicked 84 goals in a year Carlton finished last. Obviously Aaron is in a different class than Fev, but to use the "oh my team is terrible, so I - as a forward - have a right to be terrible," is a huge cop out.

No sympathy for Black from me. Talent only gets you so far. His loyalty was rewarded with big money and what he's delivered is nothing not even close.
Yes he's had injuries but he had 3 chances this year in the ones and didn't take it. He could've taken Ben Brown's spot if he'd performed, didn't take his marks and seems to put on not much defensive pressure. The recruitment of Waite could've helped him as he'd be getting the 3rd best defender but he hasn't delivered.

Roos may have Blackout as forward looks for opportunities

Aaron Black has had limited opportunities at North this year

AARON Black could finally be on the way out of North Melbourne, his manager Jason Dover suggested on Monday.

Black, 24, is contracted until 2017 after signing a four-year contract at the end of 2013. He kicked a combined 59 goals in 2013 and 2014 but played only three games this year.

The addition of Jarrad Waite and Shaun Higgins at the end of last year meant there was no room for Black in the Roos’ forward line.

“We’ve probably been a little disappointed in that instance. Some of the players brought in might have gone past Aaron,” Dover said on NAB AFL Trade Radio.

“Aaron made the choice to stay at the Kangaroos because of loyalty. Perhaps in hindsight, we may look at it differently.

“It’s been 12 months now he’s been treading water.”

Fremantle came hard for the West Australian in 2013 and 2014 and looms again as an option for Black next year.

The Dockers finished twelfth in points-for per game despite being minor premiers. With Matthew Pavlich turning 34 by the end of the year and possibly considering retirement, the need for Fremantle to recruit another forward increases.

Dover refused to comment when categorically asked if Black had asked to be traded.

“Hopefully we can explore some opportunities that might mean a fresh start for Aaron elsewhere.”

"Some of the players brought in might have gone past Aaron."

No shit pal? Your client has been ****ing around at suburban grounds for two years and the guys we brought in to challenge him are playing & excelling in the AFL. I don't think it's "might" anymore.

Fev was a ridiculously good player who peaked in a time when it was much, much easier for key forwards to kick a lot of goals.

He has shown to be unable to fight for selection. At all. We gifted him the games as soon as he was over his injuries in the early part of his career. There was no pressure to perform.

Now in the mature side we are no longer gifting games. And he hasn't been able to fight his way in. Two decent vfl games all year. FFS.

When North Ballarat were rollicking down the home stretch of the season, Black was hardly setting the world on fire. His little mate Nahas on the rookie list, in the same 'struggling' team, was potting 14 goals in 3 games between rounds 14 to 16.

I think his manager's comments make him look worse when you compare him to Sideshow. Benny could have had the same excuses, but embraced the opportunities. Considering how close Dish and Waite are to retirement, his managers comments are even more bizarre. Do yourself a favour Aaron, find a new manager.

Fraud of the highest order, signs the 'big' 3 (or was it 4) year contract, gets comfortable and then proceeds to roll up to the club to simply collect his weekly pay cheque. Might have been playing with injuries last year but spending this year battling away in the reserves shows just how 'desperate' he was to be a good senior player. Our 3 key forwards might not be the most talented or classy going around but at least they friggin try their guts out, not sure Black does the same.......hopefully if any deal is done we don't end up paying any portion of his contract.

Every time we do a trade, many posters always bitch and moan about how bad the deal was for North. So, given he's going, let's declare now what we would be happy with. There's not a lot of point being concerned by the reduction in his currency or what potential he might still have. His value now is all that matters.

For me, I'd take a second rounder. Or package up say Black plus our second rounder for someone's first rounder.

Second rounder would be best case. But given that draft round may be misleading depending on which side we are talking about, I'd say pick 30-35. Anything better is a bonus. But I wouldn't be trading a contracted player for pick 40+ in a weak draft.

His three games this year were disgraceful. Here's a bloke wanting to get his spot back and he showed all the determination, intensity and fight of a West Coast Eagles player on Grand Final Day. He looked like he didn't want to be there. Get the trade done although I suspect his value has plummeted. Have someone else pay out the contract and a second rounder would do me.
