We are being a bit harsh here. He is a second year player. Standards are set by the 'leaders' and senior players at the club. If Guelfi or indeed any young player is underperforming then it probably reflects a toxic team environment where effort is optional rather than mandatory.

Guelfi should be expected to come in and perform his role. I believe the effort is there but it is incredibly difficult for a young player to succeed in the current team environment.

He's basically a not as good Ben Howlett.

I have no issue with Guelfi...he’s hard at it, good in contested situations and versatile. Great attitude, all about team.

But he’s playing ahead of better young talent...Ridley for one is far superior. The coaches are enamoured...coaches always love these sorts of guys. They need to stay dispassionate and see past it.

15 gamer who shows a little bit. I don’t think dropping him after a poor game would be a solution to anything.
How many poor games do we drop him after?

He's a 5th year player by age.

At best he'll become a utility who do jobs.

That gives him a place on a list but the only reason anyone tolerates this guy is because he hasntbeen around long enough.

If Guelfi is someone's idea of an AFL player we might as well bring in those extra clubs administrators want because there are another 80 of him in the lower leagues, at least.

I'm sure he's a great kid, but just not up to scratch.

I'm in the same boat as others who just aren't seeing what he brings to the team. Maybe if he goes back to the VFL, he'll find a role and develop in it where he can come back into the seniors at a later time. Until then, I just don't get it.

Tbf you have no idea what he’ll become at best. That’s the point: he’s played 15 games. Yes, you can point to his age, but experience is more valuable than age.

Is he going to become a Brownlow medallist? No. But he’s a bloke who made it onto an AFL list and quickly established a spot in the senior side in his first season. It’s not unreasonable to suggest he may have a fair bit of improvement to come if he can nail down a role and is playing in a side that isn’t absolutely terrible.

I get he wasn’t great but he’s a young player very early in his career who will make errors. I think he’s a long way down the list in terms of who get dropped at the moment. We have so many players in horrible form.

There’s 80 of him in lower leagues? You could say that about half our list at the moment.

Well I base it on what I have seen of him which is not much (we've probably seen him play 20 games now).

There is a difference between being uncertain about what might be because the future is inherently uncertain and players being out of form.

I haven't played any so they should bring me in instead. Untapped potential.

Top 3 for intercept marks for us tonight, McGrath had 8, Guelfi and Merrett 7 each. Dunno what exactly happened with Clarke, Clarke seemed totally unaware of where he was or what he was meant to be doing to me. Perhaps that would have been intercept mark no. 8.

Good game tonight. Cracked in well. Who does what he does in D50, even if it it's just a scramble out. We are screaming for blokes like this then sacrifice them , stay fat
