Have we tried him as a tagger before?

Just trying to see a way to keep him in the team and bring Menzies in. Plus with the Daveys and Tex on the horizon, could be a way to continue his career longer term. Has a similar skill set to James Harmes and with McGrath hopefully moving back in the long term we have a defensive mid spot availabe.

Could work. They seem to throw him in whatever gap that needs filling.

When I look at Guelf, I judge that he is in the bottom five that you pick every week. Then I ask myself could he be a cog in a premiership team? I think could he be!
He is not particularly outstanding in anything he does but he is good at everything he does. He is a classic Jack of all trades. Players like that can be critical when other players go down.

Has been phenomenal the last few weeks. He's playing like a gun centre half forward and pressure forward in one. His work as the relief target out of defense has been as good as any Essendon player I've seen. Not just competing well outnumbered, but often winning it. Did not think he had this level in him.

Guelfi is having some kind of breakout season or something. He has played so many roles he'd be considered a utility, but he seems to have settled in the forwardline and I'm loving what he's doing defensively there. Guelfi's work has been compensating for Snelling who hasn't quite regained his touch yet. That checkside pass to Stringer. 😍

8 tackles inside 50 in a game, no one else in the AFL had more than 4 this round

People hate on Guelfi for being a role player, but he's in the team more often than not because you know exactly what you'll get from him every week.

You need those guys to facilitate the stars being stars. Gives 100% the entire time he's on the ground, glad to see him get some form that should earn him an extension.

Have always liked him, just because I admire the blokes that don't have a whole lot of talent, but try 100% for every minute they're out there.

I'm the first to admit I didn't think he was capable of playing the way he has the past few weeks.

He knows his limitations too - he knows he's a role player and doesn't try to do anything he's incapable of - twice yesterday he could have had a shot for goal, but one time centered the ball from the pocket (to Stringer) and another gave off a handball to Hobbs, who I think kicked it to Martin (?) for an easy set shot goal.

He's never going to be our best player and he doesn't need to be - I'd love 10 more of him on our list.

If you can look at a player and answer yes to them standing up in a pressure cooker of a final then yep, absolutely can keep them filling roles
