AFL Player #35: Matt Guelfi - What a guy! đź’… 3 goals in his 100th - 20/5

Interesting little interview.

Probably more interesting for WA Bomber fans than anything, making fun of the weather, calling Perth home and then saying he now feels like Melbourne is home. Gave a shoutout to someone playing their 250th WAFL game this weekend as well.

Also got asked about Martin, who apparently jokes around that AFL is easier than WAFL, said getting the ball in Merrett and Martin's hands as much as possible is great, his fitness and skills are his best assets and as forwards they're licking their lips.

Was asked about Hobbs, so The Goblin got a mention, also mentioned Piggy (that's Parish) and having them in the middle.

Asked about Redman, reiterated that he's not even from Adelaide, he lives hours away, just as far from Melbourne (which we've heard and said ourselves ad nauseam lately). They love him.

Was then asked about Piggy, was joking around that Parish only hangs out with his Mrs anyway so he's not missing anyone in Geelong. Loves the club. Used to get a bit of stick for chasing the ball and not running patterns, but they love his clearance work.

Would take most of it with a grain of salt.

You could - but I've chosen to take it with litres (2 litre Peter?) instead.

Both signing 7 year deals!

This interview was really good value. You can tell Guelfi is a character.

Just about our most underrated player, even by our own supporters. Another 2 goals tonight to go with 18 disposals and 6 tackles. Did some good defensive stuff after Ridley went off and he swung down back.

Guelf has kicked a goal every game this year, multiples 4 times and is averaging 1.83 per game.

That’s more than decent from a pressure forward

Plus he’s been top 3 handsomest in just about every game this year! Unreal run!

Are smothers a kept stat?

100% should be.

For small/medium forwards Kyle Langford is 2nd in the AFL for One Percenters, Snelling and Guelfi and a few others are equal 5th.

I couldn’t find smothers kept in their own category.

That’s interesting re Langford - feeds further into the thought that as an inside 50, mid sized forward he is just about the complete player now.

Smothers should be a stat on its own though.
