My point has gone over your head. He will (and deserve) achieve HOF recognition due to his longevity, not his ability.

Your point did not go over my head & your point was not explained or considered.
Would you agree that in this game you don't get longevity without ability (excluding Tony Shaw from this argument)

How many great midfielders have been mentioned in this thread yet only 2 have averaged over 20 possessions, a goal a game & a goal assist per game, one of them is Gary Ablett jnr. Stats is not the be all & end all in a lot of cases but frankly the ones about goals are a little important.

Going by the new player rating system which measures how you get the ball and how much of an advantage your team has after you dispose of
it over the last 40 games you might want to have a look where this guy sits on that when your taking into account your statement.

Very hard to do indeed.

As far as 'talent' goes, it's interesting isn't it, I'd have Boomer ahead of those three on talent. In terms of capacity to affect the outcome of a game, the other three take the points, partly due to the quality of those that played with them too. Put any of those three, by themselves, in the NM sides of the 2000s and we wouldn't be speaking of them in such lofty terms.

So what you're really saying is, Boomer is better than Voss, Riccuito, Hird and Buckley?

Yeah nah, not at all.

Boomer was/is good, but not on the same park as these blokes. I know you love him as a club Legend but that's exactly what he is. A Club Legend.

As, if not more talented/skilled. Not as effective as Voss and Hird or Ricciuto in particular. Always thought Bucks was overrated. I think that this quartet are the subject of a fair bit of groupthink, supported by the fact that respective supporters lend weight to the argument.

Anyways, as to the other part of my post, in which I agreed, comparisons are odious (and pointless). I think Boomer is a champion, and perhaps the original point could have been framed as 'doesn't get the plaudits he deserves'?

Ability isnt a binary thing.

Your whole point was that had he have stopped 100 games ago he would likely not be in the Hall of Fame.
Yet over the last 40 games he sits 14th for how he gets the ball & what he does with the ball across the competition & 30 games ago he was 3rd in the comp on that rating.

Yet ability isn't a binary thing, l look forward to never seeing any stats in your posts Timmy

If stats were all that mattered Shane OBree and Heath Scotland would be in the HOF.

Where is your argument going. Explain to me why you believe Brent Harvey should not be in the hall of fame. Other than would he have been there if he had played only 250. Where l have clearly pointed out he is still a major player in the comp.

In fact don't bother you have clearly taken the "Its the vibe defence" Have a nice day Dennis Dinuto

Come on here to say this. He never really played well against us so I never rated him that highly. Other games I watched he gave it his all for his club and did do well for them but not anything special enough to claim the OP's praise.

Good effort though.

Haha all the usual suspects on here. Some quality analysis right here, folks.

Short, annoying, goal hungry and prone to dirty acts. Never liked him as a player but he has had a fantastic career.
Not close to being in the same class as Buckley, Hird, Voss.

champion player but unlike Voss, Hird and alike, Boomer rarely turned it on in September and it's why I suspect majority supporters don't bracket him in amongst that group.

You may be right about that, but better than any AFL Port Adelaide player ever.

"...prone to dirty acts"?

Aside from the EF last year, when was he last suspended and what for?

Ahhhh Footscore, the single best avatar on BF.

I love watching Fletcher come in and going ass over tit. looooove it.

I don't care what you type brother, but when you change that avatar.......its Ooooon :thumbsu:

He's probably the best outside mid I've ever seen.
Not too many pure outsiders around though.
That's a great way of looking at it, perhaps it's this fact that he's more specialist that he's regarded in the rung below. He isn't in that top bracket, I thought the Brad Johnson bracket was a great call if not a tiny bit higher.

The only other exclusively outside player I can think of in these discussions is Andrew Mcleod (not always a midfielder though) who I thought was more damaging with the ball.

Any bloke that has been hard tagged for 200 games is obviously a good footballer.

Loyalty to North in a mediocre period has cost his standing in the game.

He would undoubtedly be one of the superstars of the history of the game if he had played in the early 2000's Brisbane or late 2000's Geelong sides.

Great great player. Loved watching him play. But he isn't a Buckley or Hird etc. Next tier down. No fault of his own. One of those blokes you look at and say he got everything out of himself. There are players that were better and more talented but not as good.
