He tries his guts out and is on the improve when he punched the ground when Thompson marked I thought "well done son" - All he has to do now is how to deftly apply a sly one to the back of a forwards head.!

Amazing what some patience, belief and persistance can achieve. He will still have some bad days, what full back doesnt, but his best days are getting better and worst days are becoming less frequent. Wait til he is 26-27 and we'll have a very good full back on our hands.

Same here....................I loved seeing a bit of anger from Watto and I reckon he's been great this year. Our defence has looked much more solid, and in some part definitely due to Watto's improved performances.

i didn't see a minute of the game on friday night, nor have i read any newspaper reports about the game to date. i think that this is a good thing, judging by this forum.

It is 8:45 on Monday night and I reckon it is now time to be looking ahead to Saturday rather than continuing to reflect on the abomination that friday night sounds like it was.

From memory, the last time we played Sydney, Leigh Colbert played on bustling Barry which was a bad match up. At the time it probably seemed like the best match up that we had as Shannon Watt had not started on his course of "Archer Brand Angry Pills".

If we are to have any chance at all this week, we have to stop Hall. The question that we have to ask is, is Shannon Watt up to the task now and, if not, what the hell are we going to do?

I have a copy of the friday night game if any one wants another look.

Let's see...game is at SCG...hopefully JYD paid attention to BL tactics in curbing Hall which were not that great...Hall missed alot of marks BUt did provide feed for the chickens below

The question is whether the players will be focussed to win as this is the most underlining concern. The midfield and stoppages is where the game is determined plus the same old 1%ers required...heck...Barry Hall can be beat by 5 guys playing smart accountable footy that makes Watt's job much easier. Can't stress the fundementals of playing on a small ground enough.

It's Arch's 250th and if that doesn't inspire the guys to stay hungry and focussed then you can send everyone on thier end of season trip straight after the game.

Leigh Brown

Close, but the equation is;

Leigh Brown + Shannon Watt = > 2 Goals for Barry Hall

Play Leigh Brown infront of Barry Hall, play a 5 man forward line (No not a 3 Dean like Friday Night, we need someone to kick to).

Watt will do OK.

I'd like to see the Bible teach young Skunk Harvey a lesson for his softness last week. Make him stand in the hole all game until he's KO'd.

That'll teach him a lesson and if he survives - I doubt he'll shirk a contest again (or he can stand in the hole again the following week until he learns the hard way).:D

If we're serious about Watt being a 5-10 year fullback, we need to give him jobs like that. As long as he stays with Hall on the lead (easier said than done), Arch gives him a hand and our midfield pulls their weight then we should be fine. O'Keefe is the guy I'm worried about, if we get to Hall conscious. He's been making teams pay all year for doing that.

As to whether Watt is ready for Hall, I'm not 100% sure either way.
I hope he is. One thing is for sure, I think Hall will be the real test for Watt. If he can come out on top of Hall, we have a long term full back, and JYD's confidence in him has been well based.
If not, then we have a decent full back who we will need to look at seriously if we want to challenge for a flag in the neat future.
I know I sound harsh, but if you're to take the #1 forward every week, you need to show more than just potential. Don't get me wrong, Watt has shown PLENTY of potential, but he is almost 24.

If he kept Hall to, say, 4 goals or less, I think that would satisfy what I've described above. Normally that wouldn't be a win but because I've probably been a little harsh on him above, allowing 4 goals evens it up.

Anyone agree, or am I too hard on the man?

With respect to Watt, who did an excellent job on Lloyd, much of the credit to that performance goes to Essendon's midfield.
The delivery to him was very, very poor and that made Watt's job a little less difficult.
But he still did do VERY well and I'm not trying to take anything away from that.

Lloyd still had several one on ones with Watt and came up shorter than my you know what after a winter swim in my speedos.

Brown V Hall
Watt V O'Keefe
Archer V O'Loughlin

That would be my go anyway. IMO, we don't have anyone that can go with O'Keefe. Archer is not up to the running involved, but Watt is.

Ive got faith in Mega-Watt now.

Hope he belts Hall in the side of his red & white panel beaten head.

Davis is back this week.Expect him to kick 4 goals in a half before being injured again.:(

Schneider better bloody well not play.Williams to play probably for McVeigh, Davis for James.

So my team will look something like:

B:Crouch Schuable C Bolton
HB : Kennelly Goodes Barry
C : Maxfield Williams Mathews
Hf :O'Keefe Hall Davis
F : O'Loughlin Doyle Bevan
R:Ball J Bolton Kirk
B:McVeigh Fosdike Buchanen Ablett

Doyle gets a break at FF and on the bench. Best of both worlds?

Better for Doyle to interchange with Ball to get him used to full time rucking.

Also, being successful on hall doesnt mean being successful on the team.

No, but stopping a team's most important player is always a good start.
