I still think (yes Moomba, me personally) he is our most effective clearance player and the more time in there, the more opportunity he has to move up on Sam Mitchell.

I've never said that you are not entitled to your opinion, just as I presume I am entitled to disagree with it. ;)

BTW, and I know you don't share my view on this, but IMO there is much more to a midfielders job than simply getting clearances. When he can fulfil the complete role as well as Simmo, and Stevo he will get his opportunities. I don't think it is that far off, and with Stevo winding down his career, I see Harris' career progression going along quite nicely.

Harris was awesome today and was easily our best player as far as kicking skills goes.

Just to post again what I have a few times already this year:
Stevo has been playing on the wing. He is no longer our ruck rover. Harris in reality is more like to be competing with Firitto or Rawlings not Stevo.

Harris is a class player and IMO won the game for us. Wells may have kicked a brilliant goal but we wouldn't have even been in the hunt if it weren't for Harris in the middle in the last quarter.

I've told you a million times - don't exagerate!

Harro was sensational in the last quarter - can't beat fresh legs. This was one of Laidley's few wins in the coaching stakes on the day. Rotation of the running players worked!

In that game, like the Magpie game, we were never in the hunt and we were outplayed by far superior sides. Yestreday it was the fact we lost it oursleves with bad kicking, bad decision making and some weak efforts. The team know this, hence their grave yard appearance at the end. I have seen a less talented Roos team play like that, but not such a good group of guys. For me it was one of the most disappointing game to watch over the past 10 years.

So first it was the worst performance, now it's one of the most disappointing matches?

Let us know when you've made up your mind.

Laidley is really working the bench well IMO.Harris was sensational in the last term providing run and true grit in the middle.

I think this rotation of midfeilders will really come into play in the second half of the season when players are carrying little injuries and wear and tear.

I think our main concern could be against quick leading forwards as J.Baird isnt really that quick and Watt seems to get caught out on a regular basis. But in saying this they are still rather inexperienced and there is scope for improvment:p

There is no doubt we need to rotate our midfielders and reduce the load on Grant, Simpson and Harvey. Over the last couple of years we have struggled to run out games, and also faded at the end of seasons, because they tire.

The beauty of having Dirty playing so well is that it will allow players like Boomer and Grant to play as forwards during the game. It is time that Harris strts playing in the middle more and with any luck he will. He was great yesterday and the reason that in the last quarter we came back to snatch it.

So there may be others? You don't seem very sure. Do you take lessons from Dan26 or something?

you are an absolute tosser coranzo, could you get some perspective. he made a comment which may not have been totally correct, could you get off his back now rather than kicking him while he's on the ground?!

So you agree it's a stupid comment? Thanks for your unexpected support

Its alright Neo, he is just filling time while he makes up more derogatroy comments about Porter.

I'd love to know where Coranzo has criticised Porter. As opposed to your ill-informed comments about him. He played with a leg injury throughout last year, and is competing well in the middle. Maybe you think that as an over 23, he is too old?

Agree and disagree with Moti on this one.

Harris needs a lot more game time in the middle. He was sensational in the last quarter, and while he hasn't got the all round game of Stevo, he is more effective with his clearances and Stevo's role has been changing so they are not as much in direct competition anyway.

If it came to the crunch of one player for the other, I would still take Stevens.

Unless he has greatly improved in this area I doubt Harris has the defensive skills to play that sort of role.

I see positions in the midfield loosely come from three groups.

Receiver, ballgetter and defensive midfield.

Receiver will be your Harveys, Grants, Watson types.

Ballgetters your Simmo, Stevo, Harris.

Defensive you Firrito, Rawlings who have basically seen off Robbins.

Not to drudge up bad memories, but the 100+ loss against the Swans when we kicked 3.18 was probably worse...

No doubt Harris will continue to improve and get more ground time, he showed why in the last quarter.

We went through a phase a few years back we were were choking up big leads. Not just the Essendon game, but a 30 point lead was normally a queue for our guys to stop playing, and I think we lost 4 or 5 matches after building biggish leads.

Way way off Moti, like a number of people have mentioned some of those losses to Essendon & Sydney stick out in my mind as real shockers. However the real shocker that stands out to me against very very average opposition at the time was our loss to Collingwood at Colonial Stadium in 2000, I think it was the game we wore the orange jumpers. Why I bring up that game was we were still a very good side then & Collingwood were a very young side near the bottom of the ladder & that was the worst standard & flattest performance I can recall & with so much on the line as well because it was late in the year. Also from memory that match cost us 3rd spot to Melbourne therefore we played Essendon in week 1 of the finals instead of injury struck Carlton side & of cause we know what happened in week 1 of the finals in 2000 dont we, it is still in the record books today:(

I agree with that Moomba. I was just pointing out that so far this year Stevo has been playing on the wing and not starting in the middle. So in order for Harris to get into the middle he would have to push out someone who actualy plays in the middle and not the little fella playing on the wing.

For me, no problem with him doing that. Grant is better out wide while Boomer seems to be playing outside the square an awful lot.

The guys who should be in the square are: Simmo, Harro, Grant, Spud, Boomer.

Guys like Rawlings who tag should pick the tag up after the bounce. Maybe then move Harro to HF where that posiotion usually moves up the ground anyway.
