Re: Daniel Harris is the most underated and overlooked player in the media

On the fifth quarter Ch10 last night, they only mentioned how often the dropped marks in the fwd line / lost opportunities were had by the plucky Hawks, don't forget those posters >>> make us look that we were very very LUCKY to get the points. On one hand, we North folk know that the OVER handballs / unforced turnovers by Harris and other players (Thommo dropped a few too many marks also at the game did he not???) really gave the Hawks some easy goals but the media can read what they like. Once North get those things fixed watch how the media 'backpedal' and say that the opposition looked flat and disinterested instead of pointing out the real facts that we have players like HARRIS that can win the ball and do alot of damage. That's the kudos that Simmo was asking for I feel.

I just wish he'd kick the ball. That bit of play where he won the hard ball andevryone pushed forward and he missed Thommo by hand going backwards cost us a goal. His ability to win the ball and then find space but cough it up by hand when he could have kicked it is frustrating.

That was right in front of me. Why did he choose Thompson to give it to? I think it was Sansbury who was streamintg ahead of that pack - why wouldn't he have given it to a running player?

Probably being a bit harsh though, cos he was excellent in close in that last quarter.

Shouldn't matter who he chose to handball to, there were three North blokes streaming towards 50 and he should be hitting that target 10/10 times.

Was brilliant in the second half though, some of those pack bursting clearances were classical Harro.

I won't cop that for a second.

Are you telling me that he's not fit enough for at least 80% gametime?

The fact is the best clearance players in the competition spend the majority of time on the field, and one must ask the question why Daniel who is amongst the best is spending so much time on the bench. I'm happy with Laidley's coaching but this is one that still puzzles me.

He made one clanger for the match.

I think people should get over it.

Said it before say it again. His clearances are more valuable, consistently, than anyone in the comp except Judd. He breaks it free and takes off. His hands are amazing when playing well.

Wrapt to see him play well again.

I just don't think he has the windtank at the moment, I think he had a virus pre-season? so will take a few games to get back to top fitness. we have won alot of games this year purely on the fact that we have players who have rested half the game and can come in a cain them at the end. while we have the quality of our rotation why not use it? just remember when Harro is in the middle someone like Harvey/grant/wells arn't we run with 2 tags most games so not having Harro in the middle isn't that bad as long as they all give us quality while they are in there. If we started having a weak link in the rotation then we would need to think about puttin him in more but at the moment, I think our midfielders are as good as any, and I think one reason for this is becouse they are fresh.

Last year when he was dominating week after week he was still playing reduced game time. I can understand rotation of the bench and it's benefits but the fact of the matter is you need your best players on the ground for as much time as possible.

His best attribute is his ability to hold onto the ball at bounce ups for a second, while dodging opponents, and firing off the handball. He's just quick thinking and doesn't blindly fire off handballs to nobody like Simmo has a tendency to do.

Well thats a problem them.

He's been in the system what 4-5 years now?
Endurance and running power have always been a weakness. His endurance has improved markedly, especially over the last two years. But the pre-season virus and reported groin complaint appear to have sapped him a bit.

He certainly doesn't have the naturaly distance ability of Rawlings/Harvey. But I think it will be adequate if managed correctly, and it's certainly made up for by his other assets.

He really needs to work at least to 80% gametime. Hopefully as he works his way into the season that will happen.

I have no doubt he'll get there, but I think it'll be a steady build up of time.

Over the past couple of years, I think he gets around 65 to 70% game time. Even then, he's probably more effective than other players at other clubs doing the same role with 90% plus game time.

He won't be considered an elite player by the outside, football world or will they begin to take notice of him till he does. We know his value, but if he continually gets 20 possessions a game, most don't look at minutes, they look at possession count he won't be able to accumulate his 25-30 and won't be looked at as an elite player of the game. Which he certainly has the potential to be.

I hardly think that Laidley is going to utilise his players for the pleasure of the outside football community.

They will be used in a way that benefits the team and enables the individual to play to his pontential.

As is happening now.

You don't think if Harro was on the ground more we'd be better off for it?

Come on mate he's our best clearance player by some distance.

How much time do you think the likes of Judd, Mitchell and Coughlan spend on the pine?

Just to remind all of u's if you are interested to see Harro and his mum Jill battle between BulldogKieran McGuinness and his mother Rosemary on the AFL Lovematch tonight on the Fox Footy Channel. It starts at 8.30p.m Melbourne time, 8.00p.m SA & 8.30 Western Australia. Anyone interested watching this plonker Walls and Stephen Kernahan is on at 9.00.

Poor Harro. He was a little nervous in the limelight. It's far from a high end production but it's light hearted stuff which is at least MEANT to be a humourous vehicle for further insight into AFL players and their families.

Harro and his mum buzzed in on this question:

"Who was Prince Harry's mother?"

Mrs Harro pressed the buzzer on the assumption little Harro would know the answer (she was only allowed to buzz during this section of the game if she thought her son would know an answer).

Harro's answer: "Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................."

Funny stuff (albeit fuel for sh1t giving towards Harro at training).

He's a gun footballer and a great bloke, which is all I've noticed, and hopefully a future Norm Smith medallist with the Roos.
