Although they never stated he would make an announcement next week or the week after, if Dusty gave a shit about this club, which he clearly does, he wouldn't let this contract speculation spill into finals.

So North are chasing hard for him. Offering a $1million+ year contract. Then only to lose interest because it's matched.

If they are chasing that hard for him and offering that sort of money then surely they would see that he's worth trading for if it comes down to it.

Its just money dusty doesnt hate richmond if we match he stays. Norf want him because he will be free, if we match they get over it and just keep their draft picks.

Reading the tea leaves it doesn't sound good.

I know he visits NZ often, but with his manager? The week before finals? Its hardly going to be for a relaxing time with his Dad, he'll be able to go for 2-3 days max. If he knew he was staying I think it would've been announced by now.

If he comes back and there is still no announcement then it's over.

Who says it has nothing to do with any giant offer we have made, including the above-board post-footy outside-salary-cap stuff Damian Barrett was talking about?

Could well be about that too.

So North will just give up at the last hurdle because they have to trade for him. If they do that no player would seriously move to North in the future because they are unreliable in getting the deal done.

Hope RFC have that contingency plan in works..... better to be safe than left empty handed.....
part of the compensation formula states

"In applying the formula, an expert committee reviews the formula outcomes. The committee has the power to recommend alternative outcomes to GM – Football Operations where the formula produces a materially anomalous result"

If Dusty wanted to leave then Benny an Balmey would surely be able to build a case that the current brownlow medalist at the prime of his career, who would be close to the best player in the competition is worth a hell of a lot more than pick 14-18.

Its not a deal though they are making a play at an uncontracted player. If it doesnt come off they arent about to sell the farm to get him.

If that thing actually was the case then surely Hawthorn would have done that when Buddy left.

didnt apply to buddy, no chance it will apply for dusty

FWIW AFL have previously said the losing club also "wins" the cap space from the player walking, and the value the player has given to date, so that is also part of their compensation
