Is this guy a genuine key position player or more a third tall jack gunston lead up tall? Haven’t seen any of the vfl this year
More of a third tall size wise. However, can play as a KPF. Attacks the ball hard in the air and is a relatively reliable set shot at VFL level.

Think he is kinda in between Jack and Gunston

Granted he hasn’t really shown he will be as good as either as the two but in terms of how they play if that makes sense

Maybe Gary Rohan is a decent comparison as that 3rd tall type but can also be extremely dangerous

So, we continue to persist with Ryan who has been giving us nothing for weeks now? It works both ways.
There's been so many posters here that are afraid or just reluctant to the idea of giving Bauer/Bradtke a crack at AFL level but what's the risk? It can't be worse than the output of our forward line currently.

Some players play better at the higher level. He’ll get better defender but will have better players around him. Give him a crack

He is far more of a pack marker than Gunston who is very much a lead up player. Goes strong at the ball, has a good spring and strong hands. If he was 195cm he would be a real target. 192cm is still a good target. A cross between the two.

Obviously not saying he will be as good but I remember jack riewoldt in the early days some people thought he was slightly undersized …. Hopefully Bauer will be a similar player

Is he accusing Brisbane players of being on the gear here à la Sam Mitchell v Bumblers?

Slightly different though as Ryan has been very good as the second ruckman despite his forward form being patchy.

As I’ve said, I’m all for having Bauer debut and I hope he does against Sydney. But I also know that the amount of times he has played forward over the last month is less than 20%, and his form prior to the Brisbane game was spotty at best.

Just don’t know if that’s the kind of form coming into it that MC will award a debut on is all.

The Ryan adventure in the ones needs to stop immediately RJ as he's been a total liability for weeks now. I've mentioned reasons in other threads, but I think it's a disservice to not only the team, but to him. Can't go one tall man down every week. Miller plays Ruck/F and Bauer plays F/ bench role rotating with Miller where possible and even Jack . I wouldn't mind seeing Bauer and Miller in a setup together. Bauer playing Forward has been limited, but he's proven it's natural to him and should be played there. His BL performance on the weekend was really an uncontested loose man role and that's why it was good to see him go forward as he actually took contested marks and hit the packs. That 20min burst in FL was more rewarding to the team than is BL duties for over 3/4 of the game.

Not sure I agree with this line of thinking.
RFC and more specifically Benny Gale as an employer would be doing the club a disservice if they had a narrow minded thought process where a major focus would be wins and losses for the next coach, whether it be Mini or anyone else.
I'm sure winning games helps, but any coach going for the job would need to have a future plan in place. Mini is in a unique situation where he can demonstrate the steps he is taking now that would contribute to his future planning.
If he continues to ignore the players that perform at the lower level, that will do nothing but look bad for him.
This next section isn't directly addressing you, but more a general discussion.

Playing someone like Bauer in our forward line at AFL level won't upset the apple cart (our structure) at all. If he were to replace Ryan or Jack I'm confident that it wouldn't be any worse than what we are currently seeing. I think it would be better.
I was saying this really early in the year but Bauer isn't afraid to crash packs and impose himself on the contest. That's exactly what we need right now. Long down the line (LDL) contests would be markedly improved as I think with his ability to read the flight of the ball and his physicality at the contest he can bring the ball to ground better than Riewoldt/Ryan/Cumbo can.

I just don't see a downside, I might be biased as I've been singing this same tune all year.
Beat me to it. Well said.

You all are so negative take a risk

As I’ve said on multiple occasions, I want Bauer to make his debut versus Sydney. I really hope he does get the opportunity.

My point is more around tempering expectations in that maybe MC won’t see his body of work being either long enough in the forward line or good enough as a backline player over the last few games to pick him.

That’s all. Will give a small fist bump if he is selected on Wednesday night.

Ryan’s development and how best to approach that would be a great conversation to have TI.

I think it starts with trying to work out if he is a ruck/ forward or a forward/ ruck. I think players need to also work through periods of low impact as part of their development.

Though there comes a time where you have to call it and send a player to the VFL.

Although I think conversation wouls be very interesting it would detract from the Bauer conversation.

May need to generate one in his thread. There’s been a lot of talk about it in other threads. I’m currently seeing bad body language from Ryan recently as he’s just getting beaten easily. I think he just needs to go back to the vfl not only for confidence, but to compete against rucks that aren’t as seasoned as the AFL ones. He’s achieved enough this year to tell us he’s a long term investment.

Of those guys he’s the Fritsch mould. Looks smaller, but lots of muscle power and can play tall or short.
Fritsch surprises me bc he continually keeps performing at a high standard. So anything like or close to him I’ll be ecstatic.

Got a decent leap on him that’ll help , like jack in his younger days
