Something crazy suss about the authorities being aware the shooter was on the rooftop for minutes without doing anything. Not sure what, but it is just super suss IMO
Not that surprising. The talent pool is simply not deep enough for their policing model, after recruitment for the military. Time after time we see officers who simply do not possess the required temperament or intellect to do the job they are charged with. Having police chief appointments determined through the political process (fathers’ $$$), rather than on merit, probably not ideal either.

Wow his twitter feed - the replies to other posts - is pretty shocking for someone who was formerly a fire chief.
Is it really that big of a surprise? Much like their dear leader most hardcore Trump fans are complete assholes.

Hopefully his family doesn't see that feed because people are going in hard.

Imagine Joe Biden doing this. Why does he continually get a free pass on almost every single thing he does? ELI5 me

Because for all of his faults (and I can’t stand the campaigner) he knows how media works. It’s about ratings (especially TV) and he and his team are master manipulators of it. Democrats are awful at it and this is why they lose.

Media love him because he rates = revenue and that’s why they give him the coverage. That includes WP/NYT/LAT.

Murdoch media 101. Stoke outrage for more ratings/views. Who cares of the detrimental impacts.

In before "oh all media is the same". I know other media can do things for clicks/views, but none does it as cynically as Murdoch media, and they are veterans at it in the UK, Australia and US.
Much better on the ABC which gave the whole thing the ignore it deserved.

100% - surely with a potential threat being identified you get Trump off the stage pronto until it's dealt with?

He gets called out on stuff. It's just the GOP and his hardcore fans don't care because they lack basic empathy.

Trump wouldn't piss on his average rally-going supporter. Of course, he doesn't care about the one that was killed yesterday.

Is it? The Democrats controlled the House, Senate, Whitehouse and SCOTUS during the 1960's. If they wanted change, they could have made it then. They've also controlled both the House and Senate more recently when SCOTUS was split 4-4 when they had a vacancy.

So Dems have had ample opportunities to pass federal laws on gun control.

Can you take me through what happened with the 4-4?

https://www.usnews.com/news/blogs/p...ernment-tried-to-tackle-gun-violence-in-1960s

In the 1960's there were 90 million firearms in the USA (and a population of 180 million people).

Most of those firearms were handguns (mainly revolvers), shotguns and hunting rifles. The 'AR-15' style of semi auto 'assault rifle' had only just been invented by Eugene Stoner and was introduced to the US Military in the late 60's as the M-16.

Currently there are 400 million firearms in the USA (from a population of 330 million people).

The population of the USA has doubled, but the number of guns has increased 4 fold.

AR-15 style semi automatic weapons account for 1/4 of gun purchases:

The Gun problem in 1960 is nothing compared to the Gun problem in 2024 and to suggest they are comparable is disingenuous at best.

If there was no gun control problem in the 1960's, then why did the US enact GCA (1968) and the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968?

Martin Luther King, JFK and the University of Texas shooting prompted law makers to enact new laws.

One things for certain, old mate with the smoking third eye has delivered the ultimate wedge on the democrats. The "Trump is Hitler" and a "threat to democracy" rhetoric becomes extremely fraught from here out, especially if Trump uses his RNC speech to push a unifying message. Alternatively what else can they do? Joe is completely underwater on the key policy issues which was the reason for the constant smears and lawfare in the first place.
The Dems continue pushing the truth, that’s what they do,

There were more famous people being killed then sure, but as a percentage was it as high then as it is now?

Genuine question, I don’t actually know.
