The reality is that we rarely come across such toxic types in normal life, outside of BF and Hollywood scripts. The vast majority, within the local community, being unselfish and caring. Our local representatives (Councillor, MP) also have negligible impact on our lives - single parents in the 70s (Whitlam) and more recently the disabled (Gillard) being two obvious exceptions.

Serves no worthwhile purpose bringing your children up as cynics*, and weighed down by a belief that happiness cannot be achieved through ‘inner qualities’.

Yeah you use to be able to just ignore them, like most people did, and they would stay lurking in shadow. As has been said, even before covid, this pestilence from the right has given the lowest license to entertain their worst thoughts.
