I think that was up to Biden and Garland,as to when commence proceeding and also going through sifting through all the evidence needed,this would have taken a while.
Trump tried every trick in the book to delay and disrupt things.

A lot of it was delayed by things not of his doing; such a not even being appointed until November 2022. The SCOTUs immunity ruling meant he had to reset. Judge Cannon also delayed it.

Very little of it was Smith’s doing.

I don't think someone who fled democracy in their own country should be in position to dictate how it should be done elsewhere.
