This thread is not about Covid, lockdowns, or vaccines. It is about Donald Trump. While Trump was in office during the pandemic and his response to Covid is relevant, there are pertinent threads for you to post your opinions on those things in.

It might also do with reminding a few that when you post on the SRP, you are responsible for backing up/verifying your claims to fact. What this means is that you will be asked time to time to support your claims with evidence, to ensure that this forum is as free of misinfomation as we can make it.

Why have a limit at all?

The real answer to this is that Washington and Jefferson each chose not to run for a third term largely because they didn't want a quasi-monarchical presidency - Washington in particular could have been president for life if he wanted to but that was the antithesis of the new country they were trying to build.

It then became a convention among presidents to limit themselves to two terms until FDR decided that, as WWII was raging in Europe, nobody would be able to replace him. The constitutional amendment to restrict presidents to two terms went through Congress as soon as the Republicans could do it after FDR's death.

There have been numerous attempts to repeal or overturn it - Truman was opposed to it in the first place, Reagan floated it in the 80s, Bill Clinton even spoke of it at the end of his term.

This effort will probably go as far as all of those, ie nowhere.

Must admit I wanted him gone and was never a fan of reality TV, but now the second (or is it third?) season is back on, I’m finding it weirdly interesting.
