The club can influence what they get back. Sure, he can go to Carlton, but if they do a deal where McKay comes over then it’s an abject bust. Carlton will be forced to get the pieces we want in order to trade him.

No it’s not, it’s not going to be totally up to Melbourne to get the best deal. Clubs will pay well to get him. Any club in the flag window, I.e Carlton.

We've ****ing sucked at this for a while, we're clearly happy to air our dirty laundry with Oliver last year. I think as much as anything else this situation warrants a clean out of the club. It's disharmonious and destructive to have this shit blowing up. Who would want to be at a club that turns into Mean Girls the moment something goes wrong.

I think his family is up to their eyeballs in this . Also think its possible he plays for us next season on the understanding he is traded at the end of 2025 . Under no circumstances are we to pay even 1% of his salary if he goes as part of any deal.
If he goes , Goodwin can piss off as well .

I doubt he would do that. He would be giving up a million dollars if that occurred. If a deal isn't done I suspect at the very least he'd be there even if he was just going through the motions.

I highly doubt that. Would be pretty self-destructive behaviour. He'd suck it up and play but demand a trade again next year if he still wasn't happy.

Sponsor connections maybe, think he also sold a couple of pokies venues we owned? I remember he was always credited with getting Collingwood's membership up which would have to be the easiest gig in football and a bit meaningless with how memberships are these days.

Not necessarily. There are certain things people are happy to leak and things they want to keep in house. Someone who is leaking may not want to make it too obvious to those around them that they are talking to the media either.
