If he was forced out I wanna know the logic behind that decision. We are thin on leadership types right now...

I had this conversation with someone and just cant understand why he would ever be forced into retirement??!!
it's got me stumped! But may not be true. I dont think we'll ever know, lets just celebrate his career and have a win for him tonight!
I heard on the grapevine that it wasnt entirely simmo's decision.
He was Adam Everywhere on Monday night and in one of several interviews (can't remember which one), I heard him say he would love to break Arch's record but it wasn't worth playing another year just to do that.
He also said he'd been thinking about retiring and when he decided he would go now to give some young blokes a chance, he went and spoke to 'the club' and they said 'good idea!' and so that was it. I don't think he ever said who he spoke to.
I got the impression that he would have liked to be talked out of retiring this year but nobody tried.

I can 100% guarantee that this was Simmo's decision.
He got to the point where he had had enough and he saw a lot of benefit in leaving his spot open for someone to grab.
No pressure from the club whatsoever.
Hmm, if you've recounted that accurately I'm pretty damn disappointed with our powers that be letting him give it away so easily.

I remember Lou Richards talking about how he retired.
As Collingwood captain, he was expected to set the standard ; after a few poor games, he copped some criticism in the press.
Looking for some moral support, he approached his coach, Phonse Kyne, at training, and said, 'I've been thinking Phonse, maybe it's time for me to hang up my boots'.
'Righto, Lou' was the response.
