James Rowbottom

The Sydney Swans recruited James Rowbottom with their second selection at the 2018 AFL Draft and the midfield bull impacted from the get-go. The Oakleigh Chargers product made his AFL debut against Richmond at Marvel Stadium in Round 5, 2019 and finished the season with 12 senior games beside his name. Rowbottom also led the NEAFL MVP voting when it was hidden from the public after Round 12. The young Swan is a ball magnet, explosive at the stoppages, an outstanding tackler and a clean user of the footy.

DOB: 19 September 2000

Still deliberating. Taking longer as the jury first has to determine if it's a bump and then, if it is, decide on the impact.
No mention of Mills bumping into Rowbottom!!

Sydney's appeal has failed.

James Rowbottom's one-match ban stands.

37 pressure acts, 13 more than the next best on the ground!!! 13 MORE!!!

8 tackles. 6 clearances. 10/16 possessions contested.

Best game of his young career.

He's had a few great games in a row now. Hope he continues at a similar level post bye. He looks to have regained confidence and explosion through the contest. Warner & Rowie are starting to build a deadly 1,2 combo in the middle. Love it.

This is probably my favourite passage of play from this season. Rips the fker out of Oliver's hands. Bullied Oliver in that moment. LOVED IT!

There was a stoppage where I noticed Rowie was matched up on Oliver, where Oliver was fronting him rather than focusing on the ruck contest. He was more worried about Rowie getting the ball & impacting the contest than himself winning the ball. That's when I knew Rowie has got into his head & shook Olivers confidence. I was soo flipping happy seeing it. I really hope that's highlighted in the post match review, great signs for him.

Remarkable stats, and kind of didn't stand out on the day.

Looks like he is finding his groove

and he has three very experienced Demons (Oliver, Gawn and Petracca) cms away from him! 2022 round 12 rowbottom.jpg

Lol'd at Oliver giving the Trac a dirty look after Rowbottom got away.
Petracca was very lazy then, looking for the cheap handball after Oliver was expected to have won it.

To be fair, that's how they usually operate, and how a midfield should operate. Petracca is within his rights to hold his position and expect that in a 1v1, Oliver will win out with the ball, because he almost always does. He's the number 1 contested ball winner in the comp.

Only on this occasion, Rowbotton had other ideas.

Pretty brilliant by the kid also to have the awareness to know he'd drawn all three Melbourne mids to him, which had left space behind him to spin towards and burst into the clear. Genius.

Definitely his best game. After Logan's best game against Carlton. Starting to click into place for a few of our younger guys now. Now the next challenge for them is producing that more consistently. When we get that effort more consistently we will be a very good side.

I disagree. It is one thing to maintain width but another to make a pathetic attempt at a tackle. Petracca put one hand on Rowbottom's shoulder as Rowbottom was breaking out, then gave up.
