What it takes to overcome a hard tag.

1. Communication - Encourage teammates to communicate with LDU to help create space

2. Change Positions on the Field - This is a coaches call but I suspect Clarko left LDU in there so he can experience and grow as a player when the hard tag comes

3. Run of the Ball - Constant movement and run hard off the ball. This requires a large tank….which LDU lacks.

4. Use Screens and Blocks - Use teammates to set screens and blocks to shake of the marker

5. Double Teaming - Coordinate with a teammate to double team the tagger and force Carlton to adjust their defensive structure

Overall, overcoming a tag overwhelmingly comes down to teamwork and adaptability.

LDU and our midfielders will learn from this…
This. There have been some massive shit takes in this thread about LDU's game on Friday. Until the mids start playing as a team and blocking for LDU or creating space for him the way that a Wardlaw does, it's going to be hard to be too critical of him. Other teams protect their best players, we might do that for 5 minutes a game in total. It's one of the many reasons were nowhere near it atm.

He's got leverage to make sure that:

1. He gets paid big money
2. That we make big moves to start winning and our plan isn't to look 3 years down the line and waste most of his prime

He doesn't need to rush to recommit.

Should LDU be tagged by Dunkley, i would love to see him on the receiving end of a few vigorous Xerri and Greenwood tackles
Seems a bit harsh, if LDU gets tagged then Xerri and Greenwood should finish the job by tackling him too?

You could argue that for any other quality player like Larkey who DOES sign ahead of schedule though.

I'll bang this drum again - he is a massive re-signing priority.

The silver lining of being shite is access to players of this calibre.

Leaking them back out as they hit their peak keeps restarting the rebuild process. A la GC and once upon a time GWS.
Give him a 1.75 a year x 5, he needs to stay.

Club might want to see his body hold up for a whole season (knock on wood) before committing to him long term.
I think it'll get sorted before the start of next season. He was pumped for the season to start and very excited to play with all the young guys like Wardlaw and Colby. And I think we'll get more 2-3 more wins for him to see we're on the right path.

Thought this was a good illustration of the standard we now hold LDU against and also how X may be a bit underrated.

So based on these ratings we have 6 out of 35 of the best players by age aged between 19-25.
McKercher
Sheezel
Wardlaw
Powell
LDU
Xerri

Wouldn’t surprise if Duursma and Scott climbed into these ratings too at some stage.

Gut feel says the club would sign him without hesitation.

He's on the verge of super stardom. A big season could add an extra 0 to the end of his contract.

He may not give them a choice..... why would he hang around.... we're going backwards

He literally gave up on a chase, put his head down to feign running, only to realise his opponent who had the ball had stopped moving to kick it, and only then went shit I could tackle this bloke. Might be the most one way midfielder in the comp
