We don't need him and I wouldn't want to see a more loyal player lose out because of him, but as time heals wounds I'd consider it. But not fussed either way as have really moved on and we are evolving beautifully thank you.
Can't see Gold Coast winning any flags anytime soon either although apparently they will win a flag in 2 years.

I don't have a problem with GAJ returning to the team - I think Bomber carries a lot of the blame for his decision to leave. But hey, he did so much for us for such a long time, good luck to him.

But I am genuinely hoping he wouldn't be back because he wouldn't be good enough to get a game with the development of who are the kids on our team now :)

But the Suns are going to be a powerhouse in another 2-3 years.

Made a prediction on the AFL board that he will come back and feature in a Geelong premiership, however what will be left of Gazza at 31? Don't have a massive issue with how he handled his departure anymore (was sour over it at first), my main concern is what shape his body will be in by 2016 (a midfielder like Ablett could have a lot of fitness/injury issues by then).

What I see as more likely is him returning to Geelong once retired in a coaching role of some capacity. Time heals wounds and I'd welcome him back.

He left for the $$ and because of the end of the road with Bomber.

If he were to return, it would have to be on clubs terms and with club interests and salary structure in mind. Not saying I dont want him back but not at the cost of cutting nose off despite the face.

Would be perfect for him to come back and win another flag after leaving GCFC flagless -

GO Catters

What makes you think Ablett jnr. is a great trainer now? From what I hear he's pretty average.

You heard wrong - he has been used as an example many a time both at Geelong (after 06) and especially now at GC of how you should train. He would have to take a helluva pay cut to come back, thats for sure.

He made his bed and he can lie in it as far as I'm concerned. It's a no from me.

yeah, i am inclined to agree.

if he came back purely because the suns were a way off finals, that would be a pretty disgusting action.

very, very greedy mindset. however, not one that can be directly attributed to him at this stage.

In 06 he was a shit trainer, after that he has been about average. He's just that good he can get away with it.

You really think he's on Joel Corey levels training wise? Come now...

Let's be honest.

He's the best player the game has seen. I'd take him back so easily, it's not even funny.

However, if by 2016, he comes back and every line in our team is just top notch elite, I won't be pulling anyone out for him. Takes time to build champion teams, and Gaz won't be ruining it.

You honestly think you can get away with being the best midfielder in the comp in todays game by being an average trainer? No chance.

Yep I do.

From what I have heard and read he's the height of professionalism in terms of recovery, diet and staying away for drugs and alchohol.

To the extent that he makes his own ice baths, eat organic etc. After 2006 he always performed well in the results on the track that were reported too. Usually would finish in the top 3 or 4 for most of the runs and stuff.

Talk to ex players and you will get a different take.

There's no doubt in my mind he will be back, possibly sooner then we think also.

Some of you here really need to get over his departure. Yes, he left for more money but there may be more to the story then just that.
I didn't mention anything about him being a "great trainer", just that he regularly trains. Ablett Sr had the rock star attitude about him, and only turned up when he felt like it - which wasn't all that often as Malcolm Blight has said in the past. The wear and tear from regular training may limit Gary Jnr's career in terms of how old he is when he retires, it may not. The point I'm making is that by the time his current contract is up, he may not be of much use to anyone anyway. Irrespective of the reasons why Gary left, I do not pine for him to return - the Ablett name to me is just a family of ex-players now. Some of you here really need to live in the present.

I reckon the chances of this happening are slim, but if it could engineered it would be great. GAJ is a once in a generation freak, and still IMO the No.1 player in the competition by a mile.

He's not the best player the game has seen.
But if he wants to come back while he's still good enough, we ought to grab him for the going rate.
When it comes to player movements, it's beyond me to understand why players are expected to be loyal, but clubs are allowed (expected) to be ruthless.

Fair enough. I don't see him dropping away too much in the near future at least.

Are you telling me that players like Pendlebury and Franklin weren't offered similar contracts by the expansion sides?

To be frank SJ i don't think they were. Perhaps a million or just over, but there has been no media reports of anything like $1.5M-$1.8M which would be a ballpark Ablett figure, which would make those players seriously think about their future at their current clubs.

It hurts to be honest that GWS wasted $1M a year on a moderately performed player like Scully and didn't keep enough ammunition to really test out the stars from competiting clubs to Geelong. I am certain that if a super offer of the likes of Gazza were floating around, one of the myriad of footy journalists would be running with it and creating speculation no end. Given nothing like that seems to be said, i think other clubs have clammed up the big bucks.
