The term "rat" hasn't been used to dehumanise Milnes' ancestors for centuries.

People need to learn the history of the ape/monkey insult specifically aimed at non-whites and especially dark skinned people. It has been used to justify stealing land and slavery.

It is blatant racism. And this rubbish suggestion that racism should be ignored is counter productive and does nothing to solve any problems.

No one's locking her up for speaking fool. If you had a guest in your house that started to abuse you, then his cry of 'freedom of speech' wouldn't override your right to kick him out. The MCG is a private venue. They can set whatever rules they want.

Much respect for Goodes over this. Any discrimination can incredibly hurt. Sympathisers have obviously never been on the receiving end. An offhanded comment because someone thought it was funny or wanted to impress their friends, can be enough to severely depress you for days.

People are free to say whatever they want, that's true. But on the other side of the coin people also have the freedom to say what they find offensive. The vast majority of rational people feel that racial vilification isn't acceptable at the footy or anywhere else, which is why she was kicked out.

If you can't see a problem with fans yelling racist abuse at players then we really do have a problem. Apathy towards casual racism is a real problem in this country which is why focusing on this incident is important - to send a message to people that being a racist douche isn't acceptable. Hopefully this can spur you to have a think about your attitude on the matter because I don't think you really understand the issue at all.
