It can hurt actually. Opening up with a ridiculous proposal can piss off the other party and immediately make negotiations tense.
Why do that? We will never give pick 7 and a talented kid and Essendon will never accept just pick 27 - and rightly so.

I don't think good, mature clubs bother with such antics. It only has the potential to ruin trading relationships and slow everything down.
Classic Dodo tactic! He "wins" every time

Yeah I heard that...but how that works is Carlton (or a third club involved) would need to basically outline which players they'd be willing to trade and then Essendon would need to entice that player to join them and agree to contract terms...player swaps are never easy which is why most trades only involve draft picks.

Essendon said the same last year to Sydney for Daniher...I think they need to be a bit more open-minded and proactive this time around. They can't just make it Carlton's problem or no deal.

If it were to be a Carlton player, Kennedy & Silvagni come to mind as players we'd trade. I think both, especially Kennedy, could be of use to Essendon. Maybe Lachie O'Brien who was a top 10 pick. Don't think we'd be willing to trade kids like Dow/Stocker/Kemp just yet.

will be interesting one way or the other.

Can’t this Dodo idiot get sacked already?

He’s sh*t at his job and just wastes time of other people

hard to waste anyone's time when the trade period hasn't even started yet.......

Exactly. Every chance Essendon aren't particularly keen on a pick ~ #16 and that's their prerogative as what will that get them?
Trade period opens up and Dodoro can get the player he wants with that late-range first rounder......Things change.

Everything is relative but one thing Essendon 'will not' do, is to allow Saad to walk for nothing.
There are no priority picks on offer to the EFC, as there were for Gold Coast last year.

sorry but why aren't essendon keen on picks? Aren't they rebuilding?

or they still in denial?

You can rebuild by going to the draft but getting a 20-22 year old that fits straight into your best team from the get-go, could be better.

We'll see what's on offer come the trade period, but I imagine that if the right inside bull is available for that sort of pick......you'd look at it.

My solution is that all OOC players are unrestricted free agents.

Keep compo

Trades are for contracted players only.

If all OCC players are unrestricted free agents then three things need to happen.
1. They need to get rid of compo picks
2. New draftee contracts need to be increased from 2 to 4 years for top picks.
3. Clubs have complete rights to trade players to wherever the clubs like while players are under contract

They got exactly that for a similar player in Houli. He was a bit younger though and had only played a few games in his final season. Essendon wanted a second round, Richmond wouldnt cough up more than a third.

That's what the trade period is for.

You lose this on one hand and get excited for what you may receive in the other. You just have to get something though.

Haha I mean I get the art of negotiating is to start high and meet closer to the middle...but if Dodo even starts with anything more than pick 7 he's just being an arseh*le and not starting negotations in good faith...not even the most bias Essendon supporter would expect MORE than pick 7.

There's starting high, and then there's just wasting everyone's time with ridiculous demands.

I'm sure he'll accept Geelong's pick 13 (WC 1st) if we manage to get our hands on it.

Just on this, I am curious as to why Geelong are assumed to want to trade two picks for a higher 1st given not much exposed form so the draft order is a bit sketchy. Is there someone we are apparently keen on at 7?

I think i've read somewhere maybe Bruhn? But it's still just rumours.

Not even sure about your interest and yeah, maybe you won't do it. But we've heard that we are approaching you with the offer. Something like pick 7 & 27 for 13 & 16.

Ended slavery when Menzies was P.M.
Doubt they bring it back for footy players.

Apparently he is asking for 7 + Future 1st, obviously has no intentions of doing a trade because we could just use 7 in the ND if it came to that so his offer should have max started there.
Two first rounders.. For Saad.. I mean Carlton are paying him massive money but thats ridiclous.

Entirely predictable is Dodo.
He has convinced himself he must win all trades.
Hopefully he is aware the Saad is out of contract.

50/50 Saad ends up at North and Essendon gets nothing for him.
